My iPhone 13 Pro Max after update to iOS 17.0.1 has been rendered totally useless. I can’t believe I have a useless phone. The battery drain after this update is lightening speed drain. My battery lasted all day with use. Now if it last a couple of hours I’m lucky. What can I do. This is unacceptable. I can’t believe apple did this.

My iPhone is an SE. problem started after I had a new battery installed. It is now working after a couple of days back and forth with Tech Svc who was not much help. My own ‘fix’ was that i drained it down to almost nothing (about 9%) then charged it for over 36 hrs. It was up to 100% in just a few hrs but I left it in the charger. (I had bought something once for which it had to be drained and recharged to activate the battery well.) The next day I also turned off WiFi so it wouldn’t always be looking for a WiFi connection. I only turn on WiFi when I’m home or at someone’s home I trust. It is now holding a charge all day (only down to about 60% at bedtime which is what I had before my ‘problem’). These are my own ‘fixes’. Tech Svc was good about checking on the problem everyday but didn’t have a solution. He told me maybe I was onto something and said well at least it’s working. It still may be the iOS 17 (I’m on 17.0.3). But at least it’s holding a charge nicely. I’m back to popping it in the charger overnight.

Dude..if someone is complaining that battery drained after upgrading to iOS 17 means that their usage is still same as how it was on their previous OS but still battery is running out sooner than before..

I have same problem - also the battery usage shows incorrect usage now, by the way - I use iPhone 14 Pro Max…for the first time feel like Apple is taking cheap routes to increase their business..

Same battery drainage issues here with my iphone 13. Before the 17.1 update my phone lasted all day with plenty of charge left. Now, I have to charge it 3-4 times a day! Phone still has 2 months left until it’s paid off so to be having problems like this relatively early on is infuriating. Never had such severe battery issues with previous iphone models or updates. Also, I’ve already tried ALL the suggestions to fix the issue & nothing has helped. The problem is on Apple’s end, creating updates that only optimize newer iphone models’ (ie, 14 &15) performance, while knowing the updates will cause problems in older models. It’s intentional to try to get people to upgrade every year or two. It’s an incredibly greedy & environmentally unsustainable business practice!!

It happened to my phone too!

My battery life is awful since the update and subsequent ones have done nothing to change that.

No recommendations from Apple "experts" have fixed it, and it's such a widespread issue that it makes me suspect that it's a flaw built into the update, perhaps deliberately.

I've gone through my entire phone repeatedly and turned off lots of useful features, I've updated all my apps and reset my network in hopes that it would help, but nothing has.

There is zero excuse for Apple to not do everything they can ASAP to correct such a major issue affecting millions, a problem that THEY caused, so the only reason that I can come up with is that they wanted this to happen.

Before the 17 update I had no problems with my battery life. I'm using a 2nd Gen SE - it is an older model but the phone itself is only a year old.

Since the update it says that my battery needs replaced, just after my warranty expired of course!

It basically destroyed my newer device - I have no clue if this is permanent damage to my battery or if future updates will fix it. I do know that I'm really aggravated at Apple.

Supposedly every update can cause battery drain for awhile due background actions occurring, although I've never had that happen with any other updates. I've been waiting over a month now and nothing has gotten better for me, so it's obviously not the reason.

Then they released 17.1.2 about security issues only and there will be another big update in December, so who knows how long we'll be told to wait after that to see if the battery draining is corrected.

I'm praying that Apple does something to fix this problem, but I don't have a lot of faith.

Apple has a bad reputation for ruining battery life on purpose to make users buy new models, they've even been found guilty of it in major lawsuits.

Apparently that hasn't stopped them from continuing to do this, because here we are. If it wasn't their intention they would have fixed it by now.

They think this will make people run out to replace their now dead devices, but all it actually accomplishes is a lack of trust and confidence in the company.

I'm not buying another iPhone again - at anytime they might make my device useless or fail to fix issues like this in a decent amount of time.

I'm done with Apple now, this is the straw that broke the camel's back!

I've got no advice, just sorry that so many are suffering from this problem.

I encourage everybody to show Apple that we aren't tolerating it anymore by taking our business elsewhere - money is all they care about and losing it is the only way they are going to get the message.

I have exactly the same problem. iPhone SE second gen. All fine until after upgrade in 17. Now my battery drains fully overnight in 7 hours. Done everything recommended to reduce power usage. Battery tracker shows NO apps used.

or maybe it’s Apple obsolescence algorithm as my contract coincidentally happened to end at the same time.

I’m totally frustrated.

hence my posting. Not that it will do any good but at least I’ve shared it with the wider community.

iPhone SE 2nd Gen - Release date April 24, 2020

iPhone 12 Pro -- Release date: 2020, October 13

I have an iPhone 12 Pro on IOS 17.1.2 with a battery health of 84%

I have no battery drain issue whatsoever.

Instead of being paranoid, I would recommend you look at the way you use your device.

I’d like to know what has happened. My experience has been the same as many in this forum. Before the IOS upgrade several weeks ago I had no problems with my iPhone 13 battery lasting all day. Now it drains very quickly. Just watched a 25 minute YouTube and my battery dropped 10%. By the time I get home from work I’m regularly down to25-30% and that is with minimal use during the day. Reminds me of iPhone 6 battery issues but this seems to be directly related to the latest IOs. Apple, what are you doing about this? The situation is unacceptable.

This generic response to everyone of us having the same issues isn’t a fix by any means.

I charge my phone with the cable I purchased from Apple. I look at a few emails, pay some bills, text and play scrabble. My daily screen time is 4h 36min. Yet the battery drains as if I had been watching movies all day or something.

optimized charging is enabled as well as clean energy charging.

Max battery capacity is 91%.

battery dropped three percent while typing this message.

So the question is, what is Apples fix going to be besides a copy paste email as another person said?

software updates can drain the battery if it causes something unforeseen to the average user running in the background.

I was very happy with my devise, iPhone 13 Pro, until sometime ago.

Starting from some 45 or 69 days ago, my battery started to warm up with no reason and right after this sign dropped down one digit a minute. So when it’s 90 % charged at the beginning runs out of 1.5 or 2 hours…

Now seeing the parallel posts in the community, I understand that that’s because of IOS 17 and respective upgrades…Because, the date of degradation in battery life overlaps the date of IOS 17 upgrade…

…Please help!

Issue a patch and fix the problem…

Regards…

My iPhone 13 Pro is less than a year old. I started experiencing a significant battery drain a couple of months ago. Currently running IOS 17.1.2. Battery capacity as at 86%. Battery is near dead before 5pm. Just got off the phone with Apple Support and they ran their diagnostics and said my battery is good, not less than 80%. Ran through all their checks confirming I don’t have any location services running all the time, etc., either Never or While in use. The last thing they can do is factory reset my phone, which is BS. I have not changed apps or my usage and this battery should not be draining like it has. My wife’s 13 Pro is doing the same thing and her phone is only a couple of months old. SMH
