iPhone Calendar Search not working iOS 17.0.2

Updated my 15pro to 17.0.2 and I can no longer search in the calendar app. No matter what I search for, it comes up with “no results”

My calendar has successfully transferred all appointments, but nothing will come up in a search

There’s an even simpler fix:

Settings > Siri & Search > Calendar

Toggle “Show Content in Search” off, and then back on.

This basically does the same thing to reestablish calendar search without actually needing to delete it.

Hi Stu,

If iCloud storage is maxed out, that can cause a variety of issues with synced data.

Check Settings > your name > iCloud . Show All > iCloud Calendar to see if it's on. If it isn't, these steps wouldn't't help.

iCloud storage, if you're on the basic 5GB plan, can be increased 10x to 50GB for USD$.99/month. Other plan pricing is here: iCloud+ plans and pricing - Apple Support. Increasing your space might resolve issues.

Before attempting anything, it's good policy to back up to a computer: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

If you don't have a computer you can back up to, increased iCloud storage would be important so that iCloud backups work properly, and synced data (such as Contacts, Calendars, Photos (if enabled) Health, and more, work properly.

This was suggested by ARPU99 and it worked for me:

I was having the exact same issue with a new iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 17.0.2. This is what worked for me:

Settings>Calendar>Accounts (select the account with the calendar you are having issues searching. I chose iCloud)>iCloud>under Apps Using iCloud select Show All>Select iCloud Calendar>Toggle off Use on This iPhone>Select Delete from my iPhone>Wait 1 minute then toggle back on. Calendars will come back from your iCloud. Give it some time and search will begin working again.

“Updating iOS on your iPhone should typically not alter the fundamental functionality of the device.”

Correct. Nevertheless it did.

“It's possible that there were underlying issues before this update, which you might not have been aware of previously or might not have noticed.”

in theory I agree. But the issue started as of updating to 17.0.2.

as per my answer to David, I managed to fix it.

What finally worked for me was:

  1. I restored my phone to a time before the problems started. (I do a full backup on iTunes before every time I sync my iPhone).
  2. I had 2 calendar apps (in addition to the one that comes with the iPhone).
  3. I deleted both of them & reinstalled them from the app store.

Everything worked after that. Hope this helps.

Have you tried logging into iCloud...if you sync contacts with iCloud? Or, do you sync contacts with Outlook on your computer? Check if your contacts are in Outlook. If so, you should be able to recover by

  1. Opening iTunes
  2. Plugging your iPhone in
  3. Clicking the iPhone icon at the top near the left side
  4. Click Info & make sure that you sync contacts with Outlook.

P.S. To be on the safe side, make sure you backup your Outlook.pst file before syncing.

Where are calendar events stored? Not on iCloud?

You have not mentioned where your calendar events are? Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo or any Other

Refer to the pic below, you may get your answer

Which is your default calendar? Settings > Calendar > Default Calendar

Settings > Calendar > Sync > [All Events] - Watch the GIF below

This depends upon where you sync your contacts. Do you sync with iCloud or with Outlook?

If you sync with iCloud, you should be able to recover by signing into iCloud. If you sync with Outlook (I only sync my Calendars with Outlook), you should find them with certain steps:

1. Open iTunes

2. Plug in your iPhone

3. Click on the icon I've shown.

4. On the left side, click on "info".

You should then see this setting:

I'll post this again, since it hasn't shown up. Do you sync your iPhone contacts with iCloud or with Outlook? If iCloud, sign into iCloud. You'll see this in the upper right corner.Click on the dots & you'll see a choice including contacts. Click on it & see if it's there.

If you use Outlook, open iTunes, plug your iPhone into the computer. You'll see an icon for the iPhone in the top row, near the left sideclick on it, then click on info. You should see this:

and after clicking Info, this:

I sync my calendars, not my contacts, but if you sync contacts with Outlook, you may be able to recover it.
