iOS17 swapped the locations of the iPhone mute and speaker buttons

The new ios17 swapped the locations of the mute and speaker buttons. The speaker button was on the left side of the screen. Now it’s on the right. Can I customize the calling screen buttons? I’d like the speaker button back where it was.

Make an option to reverse it back. That simple.

If you bothered to read past the first post, you'd have learned not one person on this user to user only forum which no one from Apple participates can grant your wish. So, it's not that simple as we can't change anything. You'd have also seen a feedback link posted multiple times, which you can use to tell Apple what you think they should do. Use it if you want Apple to know your thoughts.

Words cannot possibly express how much I hate this change, and how many times I’ve muted calls that I meant to put on speaker.
there is no possible reason for this change unless it’s because a) someone’s left-handed or b) they spend more time muting people than actually listening to them

I'm sorry to see you have epilepsy. I'm sure that can be difficult. If changes in a smart phone are too difficult for you to deal with, you might want to consider getting a simpler phone with fixed buttons which can never change. Expecting things to never change however, is just not going to happen.

Since this is clearly upsetting you, have you provided feedback to Apple? Complaining here and accusing other users of being things they aren't, gets you nothing. This is a user to user only forum, which Apple doesn't actively participate in. You can let Apple know you don't like the change by using this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

This swap felt entirely unnecessary! Those who claim "you'll get used to it" probably haven't had to assist elderly family members with their IT issues. Unnecessary changes can be frustrating for those who struggle to adapt, especially when the change isn't warranted. Think about going to your car and discovering that the door handles and buttons are constantly relocated and work differently. Change can be beneficial and improve things, but changes can create unexpected challenges. I've reached out to Apple directly, though I doubt they'll be too concerned.

The end user should have the option to customize their device to their liking for optimal use and performance. I’ve kept certain apps in the same location for years and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only person who does this. It is what it is for now I guess.

That's just not how proprietary software works. It doesn't work that way with Google, nor Samsung, nor Microsoft, nor most any company who makes software.

But you should definitely tell Apple what you think they should offer users via the link IdrisSeabright provided to you.

Well, it doesn’t work very well with people who have small hands and the majority of people are right handed, just saying.

I'm right handed but I have always held my phone in my left hand so as to leave my dominant hand free. I'm not alone in that. Twenty years in the cell phone industry gave me a lot of chances to observe.

Perhaps submit feedback to Apple about your experience:

You can’t leave feedback on the software. Plus if you say anything negative they will delete your post/comment.

Yes, you can. You leave it under the "iPhone" section.

And, no, negative posts don't get deleted here. Posts that violate the terms of use do. It's very possible to say negative things about a feature without violating the TOU. All you have to do is look at some of the threads about how Apple moved the Control Center in watchOS 10 and you'll see lots of negative posts.

Being able to say negative things politely is a very useful life skill.
