The new ios17 swapped the locations of the mute and speaker buttons. The speaker button was on the left side of the screen. Now it’s on the right. Can I customize the calling screen buttons? I’d like the speaker button back where it was.

If you bothered to read past the first post, you'd have learned not one person on this user to user only forum which no one from Apple participates can grant your wish. So, it's not that simple as we can't change anything. You'd have also seen a feedback link posted multiple times, which you can use to tell Apple what you think they should do. Use it if you want Apple to know your thoughts.

Shouting at other users (typing in all caps is considered shouting on a forum) on a user to user to only forum get's you nothing. Apple isn't here. We can't fix anything.

No idea why they make changes like this.
Was the old location of the speaker button an issue for people?
Seems odd to change the location for no reason.
Changes like these are why I hate updating my phone... Seems like every update there is a new unnecessary frustration introduced.
So, okay, my question was why did my speaker button disappear on my iPhone after I updated it to IOS 17. But apparently, from what I’ve read on this forum, they just moved it to the left side, correct? I’ve looked for it 3 times while answering an incoming call and still haven’t found it!

This is a user to user only forum. Since no one from Apple is here and none of us work for Apple, we can't speak for them.
It's not a lazy thing either. It's a real estate location thing. Smaller hands have to adjust their grip on their phone and try not to drop it or involve their second hand. Obviously both are very can-do things but the would have been nice if they left it where it's been for the sake of efficient convenience.
Before I demand an explanation or a change, I’m going to try using it this way, as if I have a choice, and see if it’s better maybe for my left thumb to hit speaker.
Why they switched it is the question I have though.
There are things designed into an OS that were put there with much thought, such as for right handed people, which comprise 88% of the population.
But while there may or may not be a reason they designed something a certain way, it seems there’s more often a specific reason why they change something.

There is probably a very specific reason. But, Apple hasn't said what it is. Unless or until they do, no one here would know what it is.
My 90 year old mother is no longer able to use her iPhone because of this issue. Her big birthday the other day sent me around the bend given how many phone calls she received and all she did was say “hello” repeatedly because she muted every single one. She’s beyond learning new tricks so I’m in a dilemma as to what to do. I like others just wish there was an option to customise the arrangement.

One of the things I discovered during my years of teaching adults, many in their eighties and nineties, how to use smartphones, is that it's very hard to learn anything new when you're angry. If you can take a breath and resolve not to let this bother you and, for a while, be very intentional about using the buttons, I think you'll find that you get used to it pretty quickly. The trick is to calm down enough to avoid repeatedly making the same mistakes so you give your muscles a chance to retrain.
It appears that I’ve brought to attention that several iPhone users may or may not want answers or reason to why the a simple function change has interrupted or hampered their iPhone functionality. How can we or I bring this thread to Apples corporate or IT team for further investigation?

No one here can answer why questions as this is a user to user only forum, which Apple doesn't actively participate in. I've now grown so accustomed to the new layout that I can't even remember how it once was before iOS 17. But then, change rarely upsets me when it comes to electronics.

Your responses telling everyone to stop complaining, well seems to miss the point of this type of forum. People that are frustrated seek feedback from others because they want to know if they are alone in suffering. It is helpful to have shared experiences.
Apple please swap it back or make it customizable at least I’m right handed this is a real pain for hands free work with wide phone to use speaker..I’m really thinking swapping to a different brand if this is not fixed I don’t want to get someone killed trying to turn speaker on running heavy equipment
That’s great but I work with blind people who have gotten accustomed to the buttons being where they were and have used them in their original location for 10+ years. Not they have to learn not only the new location which is at the bottom of the screen but also that they are flipped and on different sides
That only allows you te leave feedback on “iPhone” not the actual software or versions of software. They know they would be bombarded with negative comments. And my initial comments did not violate any tou but my comment was still deleted
