iPhone 8 Plus is possessed?

Suddenly, yesterday my iPhone 8 Plus started acting up. There are 2 issues. First, I receive a few texts (with no notifications) but none from my wife's iPhone XR. Second, incoming phone calls go directly to voicemail. I have googled and tried the plethora of "fixes" offered with limited/temporary success. Any thoughts from the collective wisdom?
