What happened to Focus “on demand?”

I just got new phone. On my old phone, I turned focus on and off by swiping up on my main screen. Easy-peazy. Now, I have to go to settings, set-up the focus, add people to my ‘personal’ focus, but then when I turn focus on, I can still hear dings from text messages from people NOT in my ‘personal’ list. I don’t want to hear the text messages from everybody: just a few people. Why can I still hear the dings?

SWIPE DOWN from the TOP RIGHT CORNER of your screen. This will reveal the CONTROL CENTER. Find the FOCUS button (should be highlighted in white if Do Not Disturb is ON) and Tap on it. This should turn OFF Do Not Disturb.
