I do not have voicemail set up intentionally, but with iOS17 people can leave me voicemails even if it's not set up! How do I get rid of these notifications?

I just upgraded to iOS17 and someone was able to leave me a voicemail even though it is not set up (by design). I do not want to set up and use voicemail. Now I have a badge notification for an unheard voicemail (even though its not set up!). How do I get rid of this badge or disable the ability to leave voicemails?

I think I understand what you're saying -- it's not about turning off the carrier feature, it's about not having it activated.

I had the exact same issue, and I don't like my voicemail activated either.

Do this:

Go to Settings-->Phone -->Live Voicemail, then turn it Off.

It's automatically activated when you updated to iOS 17, since it was a new feature (at least, that's what I believe happened).

Hope this helps!

Please contact your Carrier as VoiceMail is a carrier-specific feature --> Check your voicemail on iPhone - Apple Support

VoiceMail, whether it's visual voicemail or the traditional voicemail service, is a carrier-specific feature that depends on your cellular service provider. If you are experiencing any issues related to voicemail on your iPhone, it's essential to get in touch with your carrier for assistance.

This is not a carrier issue. I have a voicemail badge notification after installing iOS 17. I have never setup up voicemail with my carrier as I use call forwarding. I do not have a pin to access voicemail and Verizon does not have any voicemails for me on their server. Why did this badge appear suddenly after a software update and how do I get rid of it?? Note I am referring to the badge on the voicemail icon within the Phone app (not the badge on the home screen icon), so please do not suggest that I turn off Allow Badges option in Settings.
