Voicemail Notifications but Never Setup

I have been getting red badge notifications on my phone app under voicemail all of a sudden. I never set up my voicemail. I don’t want voicemail. How is anyone able to leave voicemail if it’s not setup? I’ve tried resetting the phone and turning visual voicemail on and off, etc. Nothing will remove the red badge notifications. They just keep accumulating. I don’t set it up for a few reasons but mostly I’m always getting scam and spam calls. Now I have to deal with it when I don’t want to. I feel like I have to set up the voicemail to make the notifications go away and I don’t want to do that. I read on another forum this is a carrier issue, but I’m not sure. I have T-Mobile. It seems to only be happening since I updated my iPhone to iOS 17.1

iPhone SE, iOS 17

Voicemail is a Service Provided by your Carrier. So, contact them, informing them that you no longer want this service. If is it part of your Cellular plan, then change the cellular plan, or maybe try doing something a bit more self-sufficient...

Use Malwarebytes Mobile Security:

The free version blocks popups. The paid version blocks out known spam numbers, and lets you add number to the block list. So, consider using it. Read the following post to see how to use this software: Blocked numbers - Apple Community

People keep saying this is a carrier issue. Those people are incorrect. Live Voicemail came with iOS 17. Live voicemail is a feature of iOS 17 and it is handled locally. Go to Settings > Phone > Live Voicemail and switch it to “off.” This will stop callers from being able to leave a voicemail and instead your phone will eventually ring through to your carrier’s voicemail instead (or in your case, message indicating no voicemail is set up).

I don’t think there is currently a way to get rid of the badge without setting up voicemail, however, so I am in the same boat as you.

"The turning off live VM feature no longer stops this issue! I’ve been dealing with for almost 3 years.: i do not have VM setup, I do not want VM, yet Apple keeps taking VM without my permission and then states in writing to access the vm I must first setup a voice mail box- this is NOT the carrier doing it! Two carriers SAME issue! THIS IS APPLE TAKING MESSAGES WITHOUT PERMISSION"

Use Malwarebytes Mobile Security:

I use the paid version of Malwarebytes on my iPhone. The paid version blanks out callers and messengers, and lets you report the scammers. It will only block particular contacts in your Contacts List, if you decide to. Elisewise, you wont get notified, and the call or message just wont go through. Just avoid using the VPN feature, as it sometimes gets in the way of logins. The Link: Malwarebytes Mobile Security - App Store

Live Voicemail:

There is no mention of Live Voicemail in the OP. So, that's irrelevant here, unless the word "live" is left out. So, if you are having issues with it, create your own thread, rather than highjacking someone else's post.
