Unable to connect to Wi-Fi

I bought the latest Apple iPad Pro with M2, but it is not able to connect to Wi-Fi, which can be a reason related to Wi-Fi 6 and not having backward compatibility with my existing router.

let me summarize the problem in below points.

  1. iPad is able to connect to 2.5 GHz Wi-Fi but it is not able to connect to 5 GHz .(same router)
  2. also, sometimes it will connect to the Wi-Fi successfully and it will run for another 5 to 10 minutes and then again I will see connection drop.
  3. My iPhone 14 pro is able to connect to both of the Wi-Fi is without any issues, but my iPad does not function in the same way.
  4. both iPhone and iPad are running on the latest version 17 .

I don’t know if I am the only one who is facing this issue, please comment if you guys have seen some thing similar to it.

Your M2-equipped iPad Pro supports WiFi 6E. If your WiFi Router does not also support WiFi 6E, you may need to disable this feature on your iPad - as otherwise you may experience unexpected disconnection from your WiFi network:

  1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the name of the Wi-Fi 6E network you’re connected to.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi 6E Mode, then tap OFF

Your iPad Pro M2 is capable of supporting WiFi 6E networks. For full compatibility with WiFi Routers that do not support WiFi 6E, it may be necessary to disable WiFi 6E in your iPad's WiFi settings.

  1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the name of the Wi-Fi 6E network you’re connected to.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi 6E Mode, then tap Off.

After you have disabled WiFi 6E, your iPad should be able to connect to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi networks.

No, this does not mean this, however, in order to take full advantage of the 6E that the iPad supports, you will need to upgrade your router to a router that can support the 6E. This does not mean that your iPad is not backwards compatible with routers that do not support it. If you’re not able to connect to the 5GHz WiFi on your router, then there might be something else going on. You can turn off the 6E support on your iPad by connecting to the WiFi and then when connected go to Settings > WiFi > and then click on the blue “i” that is on the side of the network that you are connected to and then turning off “WiFi 6E mode”.

If you are not able to connect to a 5GHz WiFi, it’s most likely due to security settings on the router. I did include a link in my post that shows what suggested settings there are to get your iPad to connect. The iPad will ONLY use 6E if the router supports it, if it does not, then it will connect tot he 5GHz band normally. Looks like in the screenshot your included it’s probably a Century Link router, I would suggest getting in touch with Century Link and see if they can assist you on getting the router settings setup so you can connect to the 5GHz band. Otherwise you can still connect to the 2.4GHz band and use your iPad that way.

6E is still a 5GHz band, it’s just a different technology within the 5GHz band that allows it more control of how the signal is sent and received by the router and the devices that allow super fast communications. You’re iPad will still connect at normal 5GHz speeds once connected to the 5GHz band, but if it cannot connect, I would get in touch with your router manufacturer or your ISP if it is provided by them. If that doesn’t work, Apple Support may be able to assist you as well.

  1. Tap the name of the Wi-Fi 6E network you’re connected to.

——I am not connected to a 6E network, my router doesn’t have 6E network.

——- yes, this is my issue.

You can turn off the 6E support on your iPad by connecting to the WiFi and then when connected go to Settings > WiFi > and then click on the blue “i” that is on the side of the network that you are connected to and then turning off “WiFi 6E mode”.

——- when I am connected to my network in 2.5 GHz, it does not show any “Wi-Fi 6E mode”. And it is not able to connect to 5 GHz network. Screenshot below for reference.
