You could try all the same things I tried described in this thread.

Go the scientific, methodical, route - measure everything. Duration, from how many % to how many % battery in that time, take screenshots. Every time you change something, give it a few hours until you're confident it changes either something or nothing. Then switch it back and try the next thing. Yes, this will take days, if not weeks, but keep a record of everything you do and the result. As you can see I built quite a record and detailed descriptions of what was going on, including screenshots of the battery drain at some points (I have lots more but didn't want to spam too much here). In the end I could with absolute (or at least 99.99%) certainty show that the problem was in the phone, not any of my apps, my usage pattern, my charge pattern etc. etc. When the evidence is irrefutable then Apple has no option to swap it. Otherwise they can* keep sending you back into the weeds with "have you tried ...".

You may not have to go this far. Maybe all it takes is a simple call to Apple Customer Support and mention your phone drains like crazy and they'll replace it. I may be the weird one, but I like to come prepared to the battlefield 😝 If you're close to an Apple Store maybe you could pay them a visit (closest to me is a 2hrs drive away) and have them take a look at it (I doubt they'll replace it on the spot, but you never know). If you have AppleCare+ then Apple may be even more willing to replace it quickly or without too much asking. However, you do have a right to a decent working product which you paid (dearly) for. So if the phone doesn't do what it's supposed to do or doesn't function as it's supposed to function or doesn't last as long as it's supposed to last then - in most, if not any, part(s) of the world - you're entitled to (most) of your money back or a replacement. It depends on where you live (I'm in Europe) so your mileage may vary. But I'm sure Apple will be happy to replace it if it's actually a lemon (production error).

Having said that: how long does yours last and could you post a screenshot like I posted which clearly shows a) the green battery usage graph and b) the blue activity graph? If you have any means to measure temperature reliably, like I did, then measure the temperature after your phone being "idle" for, say, an hour (with no apps open or anything) and also, or especially, at times when it's hot. Note down what you were doing what (may have) caused the heating in your opinion. Again: measure, build a record. The first thing you're gonna have to do is define what you mean with "battery is draining hard"; what is 'draining hard' in your book may be 'normal' in someone else's book. Numbers. Durations. Graphs. Cold hard data.

I am no expert but I am inclined to say it’s an iOS 17 bug

I was running iOS 17 public beta on my main phone since #1 (iPhone 14 Pro) while the software was one of the least buggy I’ve ever used. The battery life was abysmal. It never improved even up to the RC.

Setup my iPhone 15 Pro on the 22nd and battery life was still shocking. Went through my app refresh and location service turning a majority off with no improvement.

I decided to do a full reset of my 15 Pro and set it up as new phone instead of restoring my backup incase there was a bug carrying through from that.

Absolutely no improvement with the battery life. Perhaps even marginally worse. Battery usage screen seems to be all over the place.

IOS 17.1 Dev Beta doesn’t make any mention of battery improvements

3 of my friends tried it all failed, this can only be fixed with the upcoming software update due to the bug as stated by Apple if not the best solution is to go back to an older device and to be honest it’s the second time in a row to face issues with a preorder device. Next time I’ll play it safe and wait see all the problems get solved then make a purchase the excitement is not worth the stress after receiving a buggy device!

At this point I'm just documenting the "journey". Forgive me for the upcoming wall of text.

Called with Apple today to have my phone replaced. I think I've spoken to about 7 people in total, they kept transferring me to other departments from aftersales to Apple care to tech support. Promises were made and broken the next transfer, everybody made notes in the system but never could the next person see these notes. At this time I'm pretty annoyed.

I requested Apple to send a new phone first so I wouldn't be without a phone for a week; one of the persons I spoke strongly hinted that this would be no problem but then the next one said that was never an option and is never done. Which is 100% untrue; I had something with my iPhone 5/6/7 or so at the time and back then I was sent a new phone without a problem and I returned the faulty one in the same box it came in. But ok.

So my replacement will come "probably" within a week or 2, 3. Meanwhile I'm supposed to be... unreachable? I happen to have my 13 Pro Max still but what if I sold it? (In fact, I actually had to return in to the company, but we still had it in storage). Nobody would budge. Ok. "Then can I go to the store and swap it there?" First I was told no (because somehow they thought I was from Belgium even though they all asked for the Invoice ID and address and also had my +31 (Netherlands) phone number on display 🤪) and when they found out I was from the Netherlands then suddenly it was possible. But then the phone would be credited to the original (company) creditcard and I would have to pay from my own pocket (and somehow get the money back, which is a hassle, from the company). Also they couldn't guarantee they'd have my model and wouldn't inquire and maybe have them put one aside for me. Since it's a 2hrs drive (4hrs both ways) I didn't want to risk heading over there for nothing.

In the end I gave in. I got exhausted of Apple not wanting to cooperate and I gave up after over an hour on my (quickly draining and heating) phone (that had to be put on a charger midway the call). Even though I logged my issue with Apple over a week ago (well within the 14 day return period) they kept insisting that I was over the 14 day return period (which is 3 days over now). They then offered me a 'gesture' for all my trouble. They were very secretive of it, wouldn't say what it was, but I'm 99% sure it's something like 'free 6 months Apple Music' or something. I. Don't. Care. I don't need your 'gesture', I want a working phone. Typing this all out makes me wonder why I even still want an Apple phone... Gues I'm too deep (like elbow deep) in the Apple ecosystem and I'm sort-of hostage.

Anyway. I took my iPhone 13 Pro Max, restored it from backup, factory reset the 15 Pro Max and, lo and behold, even after being factory reset hours ago it's still warm (31 degrees celcius (actually measured) currently) to the touch and doing absolutely nothing. This also rules out anything in my settings / profile. UPS will pick it up tomorrow; I put it back in the original packaging it came in and I'll try to remember to take one last glance at the battery state (even though it won't show a percentage at the "Hello" screen) before I hand it over to the delivery person tomorrow. I'm convinced it will be on low battery, if not 100% drained by then.

I hope this is the end of it. My replacement should arrive in "2 to 3 weeks max.", even thought I received an email that says 14-21 november. I was assured, and I believe this although I don't know why, that the return would be handled with priority and I wouldn't have to wait 5 weeks for my replacement. We'll see. At this point I'm just tired, weary from dealing with Apple today, weary from trying everything under the sun to figure out what was wrong with it for the past 2 weeks and just want it to be over. I understand Apple has a popular product, a huge customer base and loyal fans. I've been one since the iPhone 3. Watches, macbooks, tablets, phones, you-name-it and I've owned it at some point or still do. I have a literal "shrine" with empty Apple packaging from all the products I've owned over the years. But, now, honestly, I feel mostly very disappointed by Apple and especially by Apple Customer Care. Let's hope the replacement functions properly.

Ok, I apologise for hijacking this thread and making it my personal echochamber / diary but I do have an update.

This afternoon, around 15:00, I factory reset my 15 Pro Max and put it in it's original packaging. When I arrived home from work I took it out and noticed it still being warm as described in my previous post. This was the battery level at 18:21:

And temperature, after sitting in a box doing literally nothing:

I then put it back in it's packaging. It's now 8 hours later (2:30) and this is it's battery:

It's also still (abnormally, not uncomfortably, but noticably) warm. This 100% rules out any issues in my settings or profile. This phone is absolutely, most definitely, a lemon. Let's hope my replacement is better! 🤞

Meanwhile, back on my (2 year old, daily used!) 13 Pro Max:

This is funny to me; as you can see in the activity graph it was restoring the backup from around 14:00-ish to 16:00-ish and, while higher battery usage is expected after restoring from a backup for -up to!- a week battery life was better immediately (see all screenshots I've posted previously). The graph seems to be almost flat and this time I didn't even avoid using my phone! It still didn't see very much usage, but I'm not that heavy of a user anyway. This is, again, even more proof that, at least my particular phone, is a lemon. Especially since I'm running off the exact same backup as the 15 Pro Max did.

Good luck for everyone still struggling with their phones! I hope you find your solutions soon and get to enjoy your (expensive!) gadgets soon again!

So yeah I was a day one purchaser of the iPhone 15 Pro Max got home put it on the charger let it charge to 100% notice. It was much hotter than my 14 for the first three charges and now I’m noticing since Friday the battery life on this thing is much worse than my 14 Pro Max I get up in the morning the battery is 100% charged, I can go on Facebook three or 4×3 or four times all within the hour and it’s down to 94% by about 1130 in the afternoon just going on Instagram a few times riding a message to somebody not even watching videos the phones down to 50% my iPhone 14 I could be on Instagram and Facebook all day long scrolling watching videos and buy 6 o’clock I would be at 50%. I’m not sure if I have a buggy 15 or somethings wrong with the batteries or they need to put out some sort of patch immediately because I’m not very happy.

Went to the Apple Store today because o charged my phone to 100% and by the time I got to the Apple Store about an hour later it was down to 76%. They said “it’s your app refresh, turn it off”. I did that and by the time I got home about 4 hours later it’s at 18%. I will keep going back if I have to and if need be go back to the 14. My 13 was by far the best battery life I’ve had in years on all my iPhones.

There’s at least three problems that they know about if you bring the phone to Apple they’re gonna act like they don’t know anything one of the text came up to me and said it’s going to need another update or two… also some of the phones after three days the battery gets used to the charging and it stops getting warm while charging which mine has done but at eight 8 o’clock in the morning my phone is at 100% for my iPhone 15 Pro Max and by 12 in the afternoon I’m down to 69% and by 5 o’clock I’m at 40 my 14 Pro Max hundred percent at 8 AM all day long at 9 PM it would be on 50%… I can almost guarantee that when they start making the phones for the next batch, some of the problems gets fixed, this is what happens when we all buy the first ones. I should’ve waited till the end of November.

I got my 15 pro max on 9/26 yesterday it arrived. It came from Canada for some reason not even the main warehouse and I have noticed the warmth too it’s not like it’s so hot it’ll burn you but it stays hot while I did my first charge however after I let the battery die and the phone sit for 5 minutes and charged it up it was not warm and it charged up to 100% in like 1 hour my phone lasts very long too and I’m constantly on TikTok watching and uploading videos 24/7 my phone was at 50 percent when I turned it on it lasted me like all day I don’t sit on the phone talking all day or face timing so I can’t really attest to that but I can tell you I watch videos more than anybody I know and I went from 100% around 8am to 90% by almost 11am idk if that’s good or not and that’s watching TikTok videos for 3 hours too I’ll keep an eye on everything

Anyone have better or same results???

I think - maaaaybe - the overheating is a little less, but the battery drain is unchanged for 17.0.3. I just tried draining the battery entirely, as suggested, until the phone shut off and I literally just plugged in into the charger for a full night charging session. Honestly, I don't have much hope. I'll see how bad the drain is tomorrow. If it's unchanged my next step will be factory reset + restore backup. If that doesn't work I'm contacting Apple and will have them swap it for another.

It just sucks. Have a new, expensive, gadget and I'm actually actively avoiding using it because I won't make it to the end of the day... 😫
