I noticed my phone gets hot. But then what's even worse I noticed is that the battery drains so much. I upgraded because my iPhone 11 battery only lasts for a day but then getting this phone didn't make difference: i dont know what to do. Can we get a replacement or everyone has the same issue? I turned always on display off but it's still draining fast

What a disaster!

You can see here two things:

1) Between 9am and 12pm, my phone went from roughly 80% to under 40% battery. What was I doing in that time? Sitting in a work meeting with my phone in my pocket heating up my leg. I didn't touch it in that time period other than to send one text message. Also, it's worth noting the bars are yellow because I had the **** thing in low-battery mode. Didn't help a bit.

2) The phone was charged to 100% an hour ago and it's already nearing 50%. In that hour I looked something up online and checked email once. That was maybe six total minutes of use. And it ate up nearly half the battery.

My app background usage is off. Nothing is sending notifications. Location services are turned off. It's basically a brick that's sucking up battery life like there's no tomorrow. According to Apple (who ran diagnostics), everything's great!

I talked to Verizon and will be returning my 15 Pro tomorrow and will just opt for the 14 Pro. It's just not worth the hassle and heartache of hoping Apple will actually do something about this.

Yes while the battery is getting affected and the phone overheating in a long run the cycle decreases. Look at the screenshot I have attached below it’s crazy how the home & lock screen is consuming so much battery unnecessarily. My battery is @ 67 if this was on my 14 pro max I’d probably be having 80% while on the 13 pro max it would be at 88% at this time. Ridiculous since iOS 16 iPhones have been having bugs a lot! Come on Apple you can do better then I mean they are android devices with not as much bugs since launch date.

I used to be able to use my 2 year old Pro Max 13 for 2 days EASY before having to charge (over 48 hours) and even my 11 Pro Max still in use by my spouse easily makes it 30-40 hours. Today I'm glad when my brand spanking new €1500 phone will make it 'till evening...

Mind you: This is with ALL apps closed, uninstalled Instagram and Uber (Apple said it could be them, but I never use them), with background refresh OFF, battery saving mode ON. Apple needs to release a 17.0.3 or 17.1 to fix this ASAP.

Installed 17.0.3 last night. Charged to 100% + 30 extra minutes, took at off the charger at midnight. It may not run hot, nothing else has changed. Battery is down from 100% to 35% in less than 10 hours while doing absolutely nothing. All apps closed. All my phone did was sit still on my nightstand. Always on off. All apps closed.

This is ridicilous. My 2 year old 13 Pro Max lasted 2 days EASY with (my) normal usage. I am very much not happy right now. Spent €1400 on a pocker heater and now it won't even heat my pocket anymore.

Yep, I let it drain the battery until it shut itself down. Then gave it another 30 minutes. Then hooked it up to the charger, disabled optimized charging and let it charge to 100% and set charging back to optimized.

I just finished restoring a backup after factory resetting it after trying many things (just go back a few pages). One thing I noticed is that it got stuck on the last 100Mb (according to the settings screen) from over 55GB.

If it wasn't obvious: This is NOT my screenshot, but this is similar as to what I saw in my settings screen. I just grabbed this from the web for illustration.

The last app that kept "loading" was Amazon Prime Video. I cancelled it and the backup finished promptly. I'm sure it was a fluke but, hey, you never know. So now my phone is 100% charged and (again) restored from a backup. I'll keep it on the charger overnight - after restoring from a backup battery usage is expected to be higher for some time (sometimes even up to a week, but in my experience usually less than 2 days). Tomorrow morning I'll take it of the charger and report back here as soon as I'm confident battery usage is similar (or better) than my 2yr old 13 Pro Max or after I've given it a couple of days to finish whatever it has to do after recovering from a backup.

I've just about had it with this thing. After everything I tried my last resort was factory reset and restore from backup. Which I did yesterday. I know, I know, high(er) battery usage is normal after a restore from backup but I see the same d*mn slopes on my battery usage as before:

This time it was the Segway app taking up 100% of the activity. After I killed it (see the activity bars) at around 10:00 activity went to normal and I gave it a quick charge but battery usage is still insane. Also my phone is warm all day long. And I'm barely using it. I actually AVOID using it. This is insane. It's over 33°C / 91F all day long. With 17.0.3 and a complete factory reset. I'm very fed up and annoyed by now. This has kept me busy for the past 2 weeks.

This thing better be back to normal by tomorrow evening 'cause it's going back to Apple on monday if not.

I agree to what Ddey91 says about the 17.2.1. I use the 15 Pro, not the Pro Max, but look at the numbers below.

My impression is that absolutely nothing is fixed with the iOS 17.2.1. On the contrary, the poor battery performance turned out to be even poorer after the installation of the latest iOS.

Two screenshots below with my battery performance within 10 days:

1) iPhone 15 Pro, battery health 100 %

2) iPhone 13, battery health 100 %

The red square in both screenshots marks the performance after the installation of iOS 17.2.1.

Picture 1 (iPhone 15 Pro): If you look at Saturday last week and especially Tuesday before the update: Both days I had an activity of 7-8 hours. Saturday the battery used less than 50 percent in 7 hours. Tuesday it used around 60 percent within eight hours.

Monday this week and Saturday after the update I had an activity of around three hours and it consumed the same amount of battery as on Saturday before the update (with a usage of more than seven hours). This is horrible numbers for a new phone which is supposed to be a premium version of the 15 series.

Picture 2 (iPhone 13): Compare the battery usage of the iPhone 13 to the usage of iPhone 15 Pro and you will see it performs a lot better. But also here after updating 17.2.1 the performance has been impacted negatively, but not as radical as on the 15 Pro.

I am very tired of this. iOS 17 and iPhone 15 have been out for three months now - and nothing changes for the better. Frankly, the 15 Pro is the worst phone I have had when it comes to battery performance.

Yes! I‘m so glad I found others that are saying this. I thought I was going crazy. I checked the Apple Website for their specs of iPhone 15 Pro Max just to make sure I was getting the battery length right and I was. It’s up in the 20s in terms of hours, but my actual phone is lasting a lot less than that.

My friend has a 12 Pro Max, which he’s had for 2 years, and his lasted so much longer in the day than mine. I’m just hoping this can be fixed, otherwise I’ll have regretted not just buying a 14 Pro Max.

I really thought the battery would be amazing, and I even reset my phone to double check battery time, but it must be the software causing issues I guess.

Really hope they fix this soon.

Exactly the same thing happened to me. I was on the phone for about an hour, I wasn’t even holding it, just connected airpods and left the phone on a table. When I picked it up after the call it was very hot and the battery was dropped with about 40%. I also experience heat while just scrolling on social media. If this do not get resolved soon, I’m definetely returning it.

Battery draining so fast.

losing 2-3% every couple of minutes and phone getting quite hot whilst on a call or using the phone in general.

Quite disappointed with the performance.

Twitchy lag whilst scrolling down the control/ Notification Centre.

The iphone 15 pro only lasted 11 hours before its battery died, did not use it much and still lost the battery.

Ok so I just called customer service, after explaining these issues I was told to hold on, only to be disconnected, it’s been 10 minutes and he still hasn’t called back. Don’t feel like calling and waiting anymore tonight. As others have said is what I told him, a fix better be coming soon or I’m returning it. With as much money we paid for these we should be having these major issues.
