Map download won't work on iPhone 11 Pro with iOS 17.0.1 - enters a 'calculating' loop

New offline maps feature seemed to work fine after just installing iOS 17.0.0 (the very first public version including this) and I managed to download the [suggested by current location] 500+ Mb map in a matter of one-two minutes via WiFi. I could even use the map with Carplay for guidance while driving that very same morning but, a while after reaching in destination, the map showed no features (streets, roads etc.), just my location's blue circle on a black background.

So back at home I decided to delete the map and download a new one, which has proved impossible so far. Every time I try, the app shows a map with adjustable boundaries, the message "Calculating..." and buttons CANCEL and DOWNLOAD (this one greyed out) at the bottom. "Calculating..." seems to be caught in an infinite loop that will quickly raise my iPhone's temperature and drain the battery. The app will not even respond to CANCEL. The only thing you can do at this point is kill the app (or switch to another app, which produces the same effect) and reload it, only to confirm that no maps have been downladed, no matter how long you wait.

I updated to the recently released iOS 17.0.1 version this morning in the hope to get the issue solved but no luck. Same behavior.

I am based in Madrid, Spain. Anyone's experienced the same problem and found a solution or workarround?

Thanks!

I was not aware that you could uninstall applications distributed with iOS…

What you are experiencing may be growing pains with iOS 17.0.1, even though you got lucky once, and it may require a future update to iOS as resolution. If you are close to an Apple Store in Madrid, they may have a more informed approach to resolving this local Maps extraction issue…

Yes indeed you can uninstall Maps, after which you are offered with the option to immediately re-install it.

I do have a store nearby so I will try with them. Fortunately this issue makes no high impact on my daily routine (I can continue using Google's offline maps as till now) but I admit I was wishing to leave Google Maps as a 'backup option' and use Apple Maps instead, in an attempt to get the most from the O.S. integration.

Thanks a lot for your replies.

Update: Offline maps download problem solved with iOS 7.1, just installed on my iPhone and tested.

Thanks to @VikingOSX and Apple Support Team in Madrid. They patiently checked every aspect of the issue during a long remote session on my device; promised they would report to Apple and would get a prompt solution in a matter of one or two versions.
