Hi guys. As the title says, after I updated to WatchOS10, my card payment on my Apple Watch Series 8 is not working when I put the watch near a card reader.
Is there a setting I need to change? or is this a bug? Or is my watch faulty? There hasn't been any physical or water damage to the watch since I never drop it or bring it for a swim.
Might anyone know what's going on??

It works now!! I could not activate my new updated apple watch 8 with my updated iphone 11. I unpaired and re-paired as suggested by this thread and Apple Pay is now all set up on my apple watch 8 just like it was before on my Apple watch 5. Thank you for the advice.

Does the card disappear from the screen when you rotate the wrist to and then from the reader? What is very odd is when I try double tap at home cards show and wrist rotation doesn’t make them disappear. However when at the store even today I had to turn the wrist and place the watch next to the reader to get the pay to go through after 3 attempts. I bet apple developers don’t do physical with device testing for updates. This issue will be super hard to simulate in a lab and subsequently fix.

Some users may not be able to complete adding cards to Apple Pay.
I have updated my Series 6 watch to os10 and my iPhone 11 to iOS 17. Since then I have been having problems with Apple pay on the watch. Now when I double tap the side button the watch display just goes blank. If I hard restart the watch then apple pay starts appearing normal once or twice but then just goes blank again. After each hard restart, when I double tap the side button the first time then I see a note the "the cards are updating" and just hangs there. then the 2nd time I double tap apple pay comes up once or twice then the whole problem starts all over...
I only get the prompt to double tap side button if I launch the Wallet app first. Will try this route next time. If I double tap to get the card to show in the screen as it is supposed to be working in the first place it will be multiple retries. At least 3. If I’m not near any readers card stays visible no matter what I do for about 30sec as expected. A reader signal crashes something initially.
Filed bug report via their web portal before I stumbled on this thread. Didn’t even get an automated email response back yet. Since transactions go through after 3-4 retries if you don’t give up my guess is most people won’t bother reporting, so they will keep it low priority given volumes of new UI complaints and sec/privacy bugs they get for this version of watch OS.
Please share if any of the measures help resolve watch OS 10 + iOS17 post upgrade Apple Pay issues. I went to the store yesterday and today and had the same experiences as before: card disappears as if app quickly crashed on initial attempt to pay and it takes 3 re-tries to get transaction to complete holding the watch still by the reader with quick double-taps on the side button. I tried all listed above potential fixes one at time. Nothing worked for me for Ultra Gen1 on watch OS 10.0.1. I opened a bug on Apple Portal for this. One thing I didn't have at the time of filing was the url to this thread that has lots of real world scenarios. These may be very helpful to the watch OS team. If the fixes don't work for you (which I seriously doubt) and you end up filing a bug, can you please include the url to this thread to help influence fix priority? Thanks in advance.
This exactly what keeps happening with my Ultra. Started after upgrading tot WatchOS 10. Now running 10.1.1 and still keeps happening. After reboot it works a couple of times but then comes up blank. Phone 14Pro works fine (yes on latest and greatest IOS).
Searching for an answer is hard. This is the first time I read something exact what I'm looking for.

That could be part of the issue. The current Watch OS is 10.0.3

Apple Pay on my Series 5 watch seems to be fixed with watchOS 10.2. Yay!
I have the same issue.
The banking app and wallet app so no error messages, the address is correct too etc.
When I try paying, the cards get displayed as expected. However, nothing happens after. No payment or error message. The card reader does not even notice my watch.
Everything else works fine
