Hi guys. As the title says, after I updated to WatchOS10, my card payment on my Apple Watch Series 8 is not working when I put the watch near a card reader.
Is there a setting I need to change? or is this a bug? Or is my watch faulty? There hasn't been any physical or water damage to the watch since I never drop it or bring it for a swim.
Might anyone know what's going on??

It works now!! I could not activate my new updated apple watch 8 with my updated iphone 11. I unpaired and re-paired as suggested by this thread and Apple Pay is now all set up on my apple watch 8 just like it was before on my Apple watch 5. Thank you for the advice.

I have original Ultra and not Ultra 2, so 10.0.1 is it for this model. Incidentally I really don’t like new experience in 10 and all the issues that came with it like this Apple Pay problem. Wish I could go back to 9, but there is no easy way. Hope apple reps read this thread and will address in 10.1.0.
Tested again today. Turned cellular off while I was already at the store 1-2 min prior to paying and it had no positive effect this time. Double tap, card comes up, rotate the wrist to the reader and no beep. Card not visible. I think app crashes at this point. Two more attempts double tapping with watch next to the reader and it finally works. Super frustrating. Left feedback in Apple feedback app. I hope moderators keep an eye on these threads. In addition to trashing UI experience in watch OS 10 this bug impacts one of the most frequently used feature of this watch on my list.
My cards used to work on my watch. All I get now is the error beep. Card reader error. New one today was on the display said “Activate wallet.”
I swear the iOS updates just keep messing things up. If they actually test the script they would realize the problem!
How many times are we going to have to unpair, delete, add, update and change so Apple can keep screwing around with updates before they are ready? It's a serious PITA every time when WE have to do all this. It's not fun and makes me want to put me regular analog watch back on. Grow up Apple!
Same issue for me on my AW 5 (WatchOS 10.0.1) Edition paired with iPhone 11 Pro (IOS 17.0.1). And yes the watch locks as expected when removed from my wrist…

Mine worked fine today, I used it to pay as I left my iPhone in my car.
Yup I have tried to force restart with no success. I'll try to go an Apple retail.
Apple system status indicates there's a problem with Wallet and Apple Pay since early this morning, but I see that your problem predates that.

My Apple Pay on my watch shows my credit cards but says they are unavailable. My watch updated to 10.0.1 last night.
i can’t pay with my new Apple Watch 9 . Beep beep and says to try another card . But all my cards are not working
I thought my problem was fixed, however, still having issue. Apple Tech Support is working on trying to solve the problem.
