MacBook still connected to old number

On my MacBook Pro my messages will not update, I can send messages but can not receive them, unless I sent the first message. Once I attempted to resolved the issue myself, I noticed its still connected to my old number. Wondering if that could be the problem, and how I fix this. Thanks in advance!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.3

Within the Messages app on your laptop, open up the Messages' preferences by clicking on "Messages" on the menu bar and selecting "Preferences". Then click the "iMessage" button/icon at the top of the preferences window. There is a section of numbers or email addresses that may be associated with your phone & AppleID. Make sure only the phone number is selected. I have found that whenever you sign back into Messages, iCloud, or even the AppleID on your laptop that these Messages preferences will become reset improperly which is very annoying.

Otherwise, all Messages options & behavior are controlled by your iPhone unless they are listed in those two Messages' preference windows.

You also need to make sure your iPhone Messages' settings are configured to forward messages to this specific laptop.

first, make sure your IPhone and its Apple-ID are correct, and correct number showing.

then, make sure you are using the SAME Apple-ID on your Mc.

If no joy, delete the messages preferences on your Mac and set up again correctly.

NB >> this process can be fussy, and may require you to go back to your phone and re-authorize your Mac as a sender, or restart your Mac, or restart your phone, or all of the above.
