WIFI issues on brandnew Mac mini

I just purchased a new mac mini and tried to set it up today. The issue I am having is that I can't really establish a WIFI connection. My previous computer, a 2015 imac, stood in the exact same place and usually had no trouble connecting to WIFI. I did all the obvious troubleshooting to no avail. The only thing that seemed to work for a few seconds is to add some DNS servers (8.8.8.8) and that seemed to briefly establish a connection but even then, just a very weak one. I have a rather old router (Virgin Media). Could it be that WIFI 6 is struggling with that? Any other ideas?

The iMac’s antenna was located in the upper case.

The Mac min’s antenna is located in the bottom cover.

If you can, move the Mac mini closer to the router.

If not, test the Mac mini standing on its side with the bottom facing the router to see if that helps.

Other solutions include, have your ISP upgrade the router, buy a better aftermarket router or get and use a Wi-FI extender.
