iPhone 15 Pro Battery Drain Issue

I have bought iPhone 15 pro recently. The expectation is battery should be efficient, but is performing poor than iPhone 11. Especially Findmy app is used all night. The battery went down from 55% to 32%. Please help me to fix this?

Well, I just updated to iOS 17.0.3 and my iPhone 15 Pro 512gb natural titanium is still as warm as ever and the battery has still dropped 15% in one hour …

I talked to someone who works for Apple and they said it’s not gonna get any better that they had better venting and heat dissipation for the 14 pro with the stainless steel and that the A17Pro Chip gets too hot …and titanium doesn’t allow it to disperse. I don’t think any software update is going to make this work. and when you have a hot chip, you’ll have a battery that drains extra fast.

i’m going to further test it tomorrow on Thursday and see how it goes — and then I’m taking it back Friday (within the first 14 days) and getting all my money back. I’m glad I kept my 11 Pro. I would suggest everybody to do this as Friday is your last day to get your money back since it was the first day you could pick it up in the store

this is by all means a massive hardware design defect and there’s no remedying it. I don’t know what Apple‘s gonna do with this one. The only way they can stop it from getting hot is the throttle that A17 chip and the expert I talk to said that’s not even gonna help much. Some units are fine some aren’t. I’m not gonna gamble my $1500 on it again.

OK for the factory reset what did you use as your base to do the reset, did you use your iPhone or did you use a Mac? Now the reason why I'm asking this is because I kept doing factory resets to my iPhone 13 and kept seeing the same drainage to the battery, then I spoke with a very nice senior advisor and she recommended that I do a factory restore from my Mac and that I think has solved my drainage issues.

As much as l observed, l detected the problem with battery. l wanted all my friends who bought iPhone 15 pro max to look at the production dates of the batteries.

I determined that all iPhones with battery production dates in OCTOBER 2023 have battery drain issue. But I see that there is no problem with iPhones whose battery production dates are in September.

PLEASE LOOK YOUR BATTERY PRODUCTION DATES :  (and writes your dates)

RE the 15 Pro battery issue: I have turned off the Exposure Notification app; under Display and Brightness, turned off "always on display;" and in the Apple News app, turned off location, live activities, background refresh app and cellular data, as well as sync my sports. This seems to have fixed my battery drain problem for daily stuff. When I take photos, I find the battery gets used quickly, as did the battery in my 12. I'll probably carry a small charger in my purse for heavy photo days. I DO NOT run FB on my phone...I found with my 1Phone 12, FB was a major battery suck. Probably the same for 15. I also do not use any email programs.

I do think Apple needs to address the battery issue. For those people that need email apps, etc, for their work, the drain problem makes the iPhone 15 unusable.

For some reason that I cannot identify, the update to 17.4 fixed the issue for me. Now I see minimal drain overnight (maybe 1-2% over a whole night) with everything enabled (BT, location, app refresh, etc.). I have no idea what happened, I don't know for how long it will last. Last time it was back in October 2024 when, for about 16 days, my iPhone 15 Pro behaved the same way. Then, out of the blue, started draining again. I hope this time it will last indefinitely. But I really do not understand what it is. Maybe some bug they don't know they have and sometimes they fix it or re-enable it without intention by some issue. Maybe a memory leak (they fixed a few) that writes some bad data at some address which, accidentally triggers battery usage when it shouldn't.

Supposedly the latest update is the cause of this since iPhone 11 and on have the same issue. It is not a of background running or anything else issue as many many people have followed instructions to lower battery consumption and still all over blogs and forums the same is happening. If you look up the question on internet IOS 17.4 is the cause of all this, hope they fix this fast because Android is looking mighty fine right now 😒

Apple tech recommended to fully charge the battery to 100% and leave it charging longer. Then fully discharge the battery until it shuts the phone off. Wait 10-15 minutes before recharging so the battery "learns" full and no charge end points. This helps the battery AI adjust to charge and discharge the battery. Recommend turning off the Low Power Mode when charging as this lengthens the time for the battery to recharge. Best to use this setting when charging the phone overnight, where time isn't an issue.

Troubleshooting a Draining iPhone Battery:

Unfortunately, there is no way to determine why, nor when, the Battery Health decreased. Apple recommends you get a new battery, when the Battery Health reaches 80% or less. So, who is the seller? If not Apple, then request a return. If Apple, then ask them if they will replace it, free-of-charge.

It's Time for a New Battery:

Your iPhone battery has degraded, and it is overheating, as a result. Applerecommends you get a new battery when the Battery Health reaches 80% or lower.

Where to get a New Battery:

Getting a New iPhone Battery:

Contact Apple, and setup a Genius Bar Appointment or see an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) in your local area. Be wary as to where you get this item, ask you may get an error of an ungenuine battery. So, to avoid this continual message, it is best to have an Apple or an AASP replace the battery. So, where to get a new battery:

A. Apple Contact Info:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there, as necessary
  • Why the Wait: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due to lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)

B. Contact an AASP:

  1. Go Here: Find Locations - Apple Authorized Reseller
  2. Click: Service & Support
  3. Enter: your location information
  4. See: if there is an AASP nearby
  5. Contact: an AASP that shows up, and find out more about the services that they offer to fix the battery

My wife has a severe battery collapse problem : iOS 17 iPhone 15 pro max. She gave me her 14 pro max, we leave at the same time with 100%. Two hours later 15 is at 31% and 14 is at 96%. Battery health says 100% peak performance. This is catastrophic. iPhone 15 pro max is in battery saving mode, all apps quit, bt and WiFi off and gps off. Battery % just keeps going down. Tried tuning iPhone off and on, no go. Also the always on display is off, and reduce motion is on. It’s on low framerate. Memory is mostly free. Big problem.

It looks like it's not constant : the battery drops in waves, and not every time. Maybe it's a problem of battery "too new" comboned by the new phone doing some sync / update of data and/or app updates / downloads ?

I asked my wife to let it discharge until shutdown 3 or 4 times to see if it clears the issue before goint to an Apple Store for an exchange.

It looks like it can loose 15% in 10 minutes but then stay in the same % for hours. very irregular.

Putting it in battery save and cutting all features like always on, bt, wifi, gps = changes nothing to the issue.

The battery health panel says 100% peak performance but on the graph I can see the staircase like moments where it drops. Today there was two of those drops.

But it looks like it will be able to handle a full day or more. ( 15 pro max 17.0.2 )

So there is some nuance to this problem.

I don't see any staircase in the 14 pro max battery health. With light use my 14 pro max loses 25% a day. (it's an idle phone waiting for sms)

In your case based on the “low signal” notation under Phone that might explain why your phone used more battery during that 16 min call. If it was constantly searching for a better signal that would not only require more battery causing faster draining but it might also explain the contribution to the heating (aside from the already known issues many are reporting with the heating…I say many because I’m not one of those experiencing the issue. I’m also not experiencing battery drain in the levels you all are saying. By the time I put my phone on the charger for a few hours late at night I still have about 40% charge left with normal for me use throughout the day (social media use, a few hours minimum streaming music, my car app running in the background as well as several others but most running for less than use time except for my car app and mail, some video streaming but not long ones like movies or long tv shows except for on average 1-2 long-ish video podcasts).

I don’t have signal issues in my daily areas of use so I rarely see that low signal notation you have unless I’m traveling and in an area with poor signal. Other than that (and of course eliminating unnecessary apps from running in the background which can add up if you have a lot of apps doing it) I don’t know why I am part of the group that isn’t and doesn’t tend to have the issues you all are having (and seems to be the same thing that crops up every year when a new iPhone and new iOS releases). If you feel more comfortable returning your iPhone until the update is released then by all means do what is best for you. But if you’re still trying to hold out I would try to address the low signal issue. That may mean contacting your carrier about it and maybe using WiFi calling if your WiFi connection would be more stable than the cellular signal….thats assuming that is an option for you.
