iPhone 15 Pro Battery Drain Issue

I have bought iPhone 15 pro recently. The expectation is battery should be efficient, but is performing poor than iPhone 11. Especially Findmy app is used all night. The battery went down from 55% to 32%. Please help me to fix this?

Well, I just updated to iOS 17.0.3 and my iPhone 15 Pro 512gb natural titanium is still as warm as ever and the battery has still dropped 15% in one hour …

I talked to someone who works for Apple and they said it’s not gonna get any better that they had better venting and heat dissipation for the 14 pro with the stainless steel and that the A17Pro Chip gets too hot …and titanium doesn’t allow it to disperse. I don’t think any software update is going to make this work. and when you have a hot chip, you’ll have a battery that drains extra fast.

i’m going to further test it tomorrow on Thursday and see how it goes — and then I’m taking it back Friday (within the first 14 days) and getting all my money back. I’m glad I kept my 11 Pro. I would suggest everybody to do this as Friday is your last day to get your money back since it was the first day you could pick it up in the store

this is by all means a massive hardware design defect and there’s no remedying it. I don’t know what Apple‘s gonna do with this one. The only way they can stop it from getting hot is the throttle that A17 chip and the expert I talk to said that’s not even gonna help much. Some units are fine some aren’t. I’m not gonna gamble my $1500 on it again.

I have been running some performance tests in recent days and in some situations my battery behaves quite ok, for instance when I watch video on full screen without doing anything else. A 1 h 47 min movie consumed only 5 battery percentages for me which seems fair from fully charged.

But then in other situations the battery consumption is really horrible. Charged my phone up to 80 percent during evening and left it on flight mode the whole night. Woke up to 79 percent in the morning: then here it comes:

9 minutes of use "on screen" after I woke up (some Safari, some WhatsApp, some Instagram): drops two battery percentage points from 79-77.

Going from 77-73 through 35 min Spotify in the background while walking to work.

Phone in airplane mode from 09.30-18.45. After 32 min of Spotify in the background on my way home, the battery is down to 62. Total screen time between 06.30-20.00: 32 min

How is that even possible?

I am also concerned and disappointed with the iPhone 15 pro battery. Received mine last weekend and for the 1st time in 20 years of work, my alarm didn’t go off because the battery had completely died through the night despite being at 100% capacity and being plugged into my laptop (which wasn’t plugged into the mains). My iPhone 13 Pro would be at 100% the following morning in the same situation but the 15 pro drains fully despite not being used or having any apps running in the background. This is a massive issue that Apple needs to sort out. I spoke to tech support and they tell me I’ll need to visit an Apple Store (my nearest one is 50 miles away) so I’m having to drive 100 mile round trip and take time out of my days off to try and sort the issue.

I think I’m going to return it and get my money back which would be a first for me on any Apple product in the last 15 years.

Avoid the 15 pro!!! You’ve been warned

I have had my iPhone 15 pro for few weeks now and no improvement for the battery issue. I have tried different settings to help but still the same performance issues. I finally decided to bring it to apple. Majority of the individual had the same phone and same issues when I went. They ran different diagnostics and told me everything was fine. I was thinking to myself these guys have actually created a diagnostics for the battery and are telling me the phone has no issues. Why do you need to create a specific tool when there is no problem. Apple know they have a major problem but do not want to admit.. They blamed the software and said I should erase my phone and set up again using syncing method. Apple own up and make it right!!!

My battery was fine for me too after a few resets. But then it went back to draining mode. I hope it lasts for you and I hope it comes back to me too. I am planning to:

  • wait for 17.2
  • do a few more tests (1st move back to the old phone, and then take the 15Pro through some reset scenarios, including creating a brand new apple account from 0)
  • if everything fails, I will take it to warranty.

Btw, here is a pic of my overnight consumption. Background app refresh was disabled. One night I have disabled FindMy and the graph looked identical, with ZERO apps listed to consume battery, but still 20-25% drain.

You cannot see in the pic, but for every 1 hour interval starting at midnight until 7AM, the only battery user listed is FindMy, at 100%. I doubt that. Next I will do identical test with FindMy also deactivated, Background App refresh deactivated, and I will reboot the phone just before sleep.

Meanwhile, the 15Pro has been reset to default and all data cleared, including the eSIM.

I created a brand new Apple ID account for it and installed nothing. I have let it idle on my desk only to sporadically check the battery. I wanted to see how it works in these conditions before returning it for warranty.

My conclusion: the phone still draws more power in idle with fresh account, no data to to sync with the cloud, no apps to refresh. But not as much as with my normal account and apps+data. What do you think?

I added an eSIM to it so I should not see any more battery usage from "No mobile coverage". I mean seriously, this list of apps using battery seems more and more just a poster from Apple, they don't show what's really happening and running on the phone, while using battery. This information is as useless as possible.

It really doesn’t matter even if it’s on airplane mode. I have my phone on airplane mode since November 1st but battery is still draining. I’ve tried all the solutions apple support provided but it didn’t change anything. The only thing we need to do is start tagging apple on twitter to solve this issue otherwise it’s not gonna fix.

Definitely! I spoke to a senior advisor and I am now running some tests with nothing but iOS 17.1.1 installed to show the engineers that there is a battery drainage issue!

Since the release of iOS 17.2.1 the poor battery performance of the iPhone 15 Pro has been escalating furthermore.

Today the phone drained 11 percent from 100 to 89 in a total screen time of 25 min. Apple Music has been running the background ca. 60 min with idle screen on top of that.

Siri, Find My Phone and most background updates toggled off. Very restrictive Location settings. Most of the day on battery in Low Power Mode. This is an absolute disaster!

Charging cyles: 52, battery health: 100

My new iPhone 13 I use at work (with also 100 percent battery health) doesn’t have this issue and runs with less restrictive settings than the 15 Pro (also running in 17.2.1).

I am very disappointed with the 15 Pro.

My impression is that nothing is fixed with the iOS 17.2.1. On the contrary, the poor battery performance turned out to be even poorer after the installation of the latest iOS.

Two screenshots below with my battery performance within 10 days:

1) iPhone 15 Pro, battery health 100 %

2) iPhone 13, battery health 100 %

The red square in both screenshots marks the performance after the installation of iOS 17.2.1.

Picture 1 (iPhone 15 Pro): If you look at Saturday last week and especially Tuesday before the update: Both days I had an activity of 7-8 hours. Saturday the battery used less than 50 percent in 7 hours. Tuesday it used around 60 percent within eight hours.

Monday this week and Saturday after the update I had an activity of around three hours and it consumed the same amount of battery as on Saturday before the update (with a usage of more than seven hours). This is horrible numbers for a new phone which is supposed to be a premium version of the 15 series.

Picture 2 (iPhone 13): Compare the battery usage of the iPhone 13 to the usage of iPhone 15 Pro and you will see it performs a lot better. But also here after updating 17.2.1 the performance has been impacted negatively, but not as radical as on the 15 Pro.

I am very tired of this. iOS 17 and iPhone 15 have been out for three months now - and nothing changes for the better. Frankly, the 15 Pro is the worst phone I have had when it comes to battery performance.

Indeed not fixed at all.

Got my iPhone 15 pro max from yesterday. Before that I had 13 Pro max for 2y and it was holding longer with 2yo battery- it was still lasting almost 2d without charge on 17.2.1.

With new 15 pro max and the same iOS it doesn’t hold a day!

I have contacted Apple support since I have it directly from Apple Store and they told me to request replacement.

Purchased my 15pro about 4 weeks ago now. Upgraded from my 14pro which I had for a year. The 14pro would last all day when I used for business functions, mail, teams, internet etc. started to play some games and movies as I had an accident and was in hospital for 6 months and would start to drain and last half a day. Got my 15pro and continuing tradition of games and movies and lasted half a day or less. After about 2 weeks, I have reduced the game time and started using for work based functions and now lasting a full day again. It took a week or 2 to “settle” in and also running 17. OS latest maybe helps but seems on par now with my 14pro.

My iPhone 15pro working well now. Have 17.2.1 os and now 17.3 and battery is the same as my iPhone 14pro. Used very little for a few days and started at 7am finished the day at 2am was still over 30% when it finally went on the charger. Initial week yeah noticed draining by lunch it was less that 40% but I attribute that to a new device and playing with it a lot. Like all my phones since 7 days, I could heavy play games on the way to work and it would suck 40% in a few hours. The phone is fine it’s not a flaw in the new design. Battery has never been apples greatest selling feature so compared to previous models, and yeah I’ve had them all (except the max/XR/plus to big) the battery drain isn’t really any different. I can’t speak for the big model users but I was a fan of the mini’s and the 15pro battery is better than those models. There would be way more press if there was a problem too.

Apple support told me after online chat they couldn’t do anything about my iPhone 15 issues, my only option was to return the phone. They told me, which was in the 14 day return period. So I initiated a return for the iPhone 15. I now have a three day old iPhone 15 Pro I purchased directly from the Apple Store and it’s having the same or very similar issues. I’ve done everything that’s been suggested on these forums to reduce the load on the battery, and my battery is still draining fast.

I know this isn’t a solution per se, but Band-Aid, I just ordered a battery case, 5000 mah, so my iphone will have a full charge all day long, I’m hoping. I will share how that works with y’all. I really didn’t want to use a battery case because it makes the Already heavy iPhone 15 Pro much heavier from the reviews. I hope Apple comes up with a fix for this issue, because it is definitely widespread on multiple community forums, and being apples highest level, current generation product, the battery life should be excellent at the beginning. I miss you like this should not be happening at the GetGo
