Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities 31R,

The following steps should guide you through capturing a screen recording with QuickTime.

1: In the QuickTime Player app  on your Mac, choose File > New Screen Recording to open Screenshot and display the tools.
Screenshot tools with the Record button on the right and the Options pop-up menu next to it.
2: You can click Options to control what you record—for example, you can set the location where you want to save your screen recording, or include the pointer or clicks in the screen recording. See Take screenshots or screen recordings.
3: Click Record. To stop recording, click the Stop Recording button  in the menu bar (at the top right of your screen) or use the Touch Bar.
4: Depending on where you chose to save the recording, an app may open.

If these steps aren't working for you, try booting your Mac in safe mode, and attempting the same steps from there. Start up your Mac in safe mode

If the issue does not persist in safe mode, the next step would be to isolate a conflict with login items.

While the following page applies to startup issues, the steps here can help resolve issues that have been isolated to potentially being caused by a startup item, using safe mode.

Remove login items to resolve startup problems on your Mac

We hope this helps!
