Mac Mail Crashing when Send

I am trying to troubleshoot my Mail app which has been working fine. I am having issues getting some emails so I started testing and sent from one of my emails to another. There was no SENT emails although it showed the email was sent. Turned off the delay send (10 seconds which I have had on for months) and now when I try to do the send from Mail app from one email to another the app crashes. Have tried deleting PLIST and APPLICATION STATE to no avail. My emails are gmail and POP. The only thing I have changed in the system is to remove the send delay and, while I was troubleshooting I updated one dot release to 13.6.

I have found, in the past, that corrupted emails, generally spam, in the gmail webmail, has stopped me from receiving emails to the Mail client. However, this isn't that problem as I am sending from the client and having the app blow up.

OS: Ventura 13.6

Mail: Version 16.0 (3731.700.6)

MORE: I tried sending to someone else, rather than my emails and also crashed. After log files pop up I close (have sent several to Apple) and then reload the Mail app, It comes up can't send with the normal options. However, the email that can't send is absolutely blank. Additionally, the OUTBOX, which is never showing unless something is stuck in it, is showing but it is empty.

Thanks, Scott. I do have to call back since the OS reinstall didn't help. My gut feeling, however, is it is local, on my machine. It is almost like something is corrupted but the OS reinstall should have resolved if this is the case. The reason I think it is local as Mail.app crashes right after I hit send, if there is no delay configured. When Delay is configured it acts like mail was sent but nothing ever to the Sent box.

How do I get to Tier 2? Is it just a request when I call in with my case #?

Tried Safe Mode and turning off all startup items to no avail.

Retried after Safe Mode and successfully sent 1 email. Tried again and app crashed. This time, even after reboot, have one item in Outbox, which is the one that failed, but opening the item it is a blank email without addresses and subject. Delete blank email in outbox but outbox mailbox still shows.

Worked with Apple Support for a couple hours and ultimately reinstalled OS Ventura. eMail failed again after the reinstall. Agent was able to see the issues and was happy with my configurations, etc. This just started yesterday so I figured there was corruption and the OS reinstall would fix. Hopefully someone out there has an idea or maybe I need to go find a Genius Bar but there isn't one near where I live.

Additional Update on 9/27: I seem to be able to send a new email to someone else and bcc me w/o crashing and actually went into the Sent box as well as getting my copy of the email in my inbox. This email was sent with the Send Delay OFF. Currently, it seems I can successfully send a new email to someone besides myself and reply to someone who sent me an email. At this time I think the crashes come when I send test emails to myself only. As above, the app does act differently with Send Delay on vs off.

Tell them you want to speak to a senior advisor. This is the exact same thing that happened to me on multiple computers and user profiles. I had another family member with the same issues as well. This is definitely a server side issue. It's crashing on send cause it's getting bad info from the server during the process which causes the app to shutdown. Feel free to have them reference my case which has video documenting the behavior and they also collected troubleshooting logs for the engineers. case 102079306598

Actually think I mentioned replies work in one of my earlier posts. What did they fix on their side? I guess it wasn't a global fix as I have to think more people are having this problem. I have also sent log files, multiple times and once again during my call with Apple tech. I will f/u once I get a chance to call them again, hopefully this weekend.

Unfortunately, they didn't tell me they fixed anything, but given my experiences in the past, you often don't get confirmation, it just starts working. They may not even have done anything actively, my account may have just inadvertently moved to a different server that's working, which may explain why yours isn't yet. Thanks for the updates, good luck!

Scott, I was going to call today but tested again prior to calling. You must have been the catalyst for Apple to fix the problem. I did test emails to myself using the delay and also turning it off. Both emails worked properly so I am just going to monitor at this time. Appreciate your help and if still have issues I will return here and post.

This just started happening to me last night after the 13.6.1 update. Using Mac.com email account, email "swoosh" sound is heard but email never shows up in sent folder and recipient doesn't receive. Have tried multiple tests. Then app crashes. This morning I turned off the "delay send" option in settings and now the mail app just crashes when I hit send. Then the server connection error comes up. I'm so frustrated!

ehpizz, read the posts from Scott Ryder in this thread. It appears it was a server side issue but Scott Ryder recommended calling and asking for a Senior Tech if it continued. Shortly after Apple resolved the issue with Scott Ryder my issue disappeared and I haven't seen since. I am on 13.6.1 as well and haven't had a problem since Oct 1st.
