Music.app on MacOS not playing full tracks for songs I own/play locally

on MacBook Pro, Mac OS 13.5.2 (22G91)

user Music.app (formerly known as iTunes)

For the past month, Music app will no longer reliably play full tracks. It will usually play somewhere between half way through and 3/4 of the way through and then just skips to next track. These are mp3s that I play and store locally. I'm not doing any kind of streaming either locally or through the Internet, so there's NO reason why this should be happening.


I hope this can be resolved otherwise, the app is completely useless for me at this point.

Any similar questions I've seen online have been regarding streaming music, or have not gotten an answer.


Deleting the track and re-adding to my library does not have any effect.

Thanks Randall. I had seen this reply and re-importing the music has not seemed to make a difference for the problem, unfortunately.

Thanks for the VLC recommend, I'm already a longtime user. Though for music, I prefer Swinsian or Vox as iTunes alternatives. (Though I use VLC for video all the time). If you've not tried Swinsian for music before I highly recommend it.
