iPhone 15 Pro Max Back Glass Durability

Hello, I’m interested in purchasing an iPhone 15 pro max, I have seen online that this model breaks very easily (back glass breaks with minimal pressure- JerryRigsEverything video). Has anyone else experienced this?

I disagree.

In his videos, he compared it to the iPhone 14, same tests. Significant difference in durability. In fact, the 14 did not break and with more pressure.

Yes, it was deliberately destroyed, 1 test at a time… I’m unaware how else you’d test durability. However, the first test was the back glass. The rest of the tests followed, and most praised.

A LOT of other videos have emerged as well. Popular Mac forums have published articles too. Same observations, and more with the camera falling off after a decent fall. Never in the history of iPhones has this happened, under extreme falls (Off Rooftops).

Pure speculation; I believe it’s a design flaw related to the back glass now being removable, and it will probably be fixed on the iPhone 16.

OP:

If you still get the 15… you’ll probably like it. But take extra precautions. Like a lanyard 😂.

My opinion, find an iPhone 14. It will cost less, performance comparisons are negligible (see tests online), and it has superior durability.

What were the circumstances? Were you caseless? Where and on what substrate did you drop the phone. I have the 15 PM since launch in a quality case, and I'm very outdoorsy and don't baby my phone and haven't had any issues.

This thread isn't helping the original subject at hand, instead it's turned into anecdotal stories really lacking any real insight into the circumstances. "Worst phone ever" is really subjective. I work in tech, across both platforms and I really like the 15 series iPhones and defintely haven't found the 15 PM to be fragile at all.

What I mean is that everyone who says they didn't drop their phone very far always says around 18 inches. It doesn't matter if they report that they dropped the phone from standing, sitting or if it fell off of something. It's almost always 18 inches. I find that interesting. Perhaps phones break when dropped from 18 inches but are less likely to do so if the distance is more or if it's less. Or, perhaps people are bad at judging distance.

If you really want to get into the detail then you need to look at the average height of iPhone users to work out how high their phone is sat in their pocket. Then also look at their height and arm lengths to work out the average drop distance to the floor. In my experience though the phone is most likely to have a fall when I’m sat down and it falls out my pocket in which case the height is always going to be similar. Not sure there are many people who are in to launching their phones into the sky for fun or throwing them off balconys.

18 inches by the way is indeed the height of a dining chair.

You have completely missed my point. But, it wasn't that important.

The crux of this thread was to address the original question or concern.

That was - Does this model, in particular the back glass, break more easily than previous models?

Of what use is the comment, "Yes. Dropped from my pocket on to asphalt parking lot and cracked. Very fragile."

??

lol..

Case details would be helpful. Screen protector details... helpful. Where the crack was... helpful. ETC.

Drrrrrrrrrr.....

iPhone 14 ProMax May have reached the “max” weight vs durability. iPhone 15PMx is nea Identical in weight and chassis. My complaint is that, two decades in the Iphone design process it is still difficult and costly to repair anything prior

to the 14. A 15 is lower cost to repair. While my 14PMx phone suffered from a catastrophic error on my

part (fracturing the back glass), it still

functions. If it were a 15 it would have been shattered as well but 1/3 the repair cost thanks to apple finally designing with repair in mind.

In my experience Apple (Cardiff South Wales UK) are very helpful.

I had the iPhone X when it first launched. The screen cracked in the corner and I was really unhappy. I took it to them and they replaced the phone completely under warranty. They could’ve claimed I dropped the phone which wasn’t the case. It looked purely as if the frame of the phone had caused the crack.

They were really helpful and did their best to help me.

This may not be the same in your area but the worst they could say is no.

I would personally approach them, explain you’re not happy and they will more than likely help you if they can.

Fingers crossed.

I bought my iPhone 15 pro max in January… and just yesterday it fell from my pocket the back glass got damaged… the camera had a lens protector so it’s only the back glass that is damaged… if I go to an authorized apple shop… and they use genuine parts, will my iPhone still be functioning the same, the camera , speakers, sensors , will it be okay after the fixing??

I never thought Apple would make a less durable phone. I dropped my I phone 14 in water quickly picked it up. Took the case off and found the back glass looked like a spider web. I drop my phone like everyone has. The water was at lake edge so it didnt damage then. I also found out the guts of phone are right below the glass. So waterproof to 18 ft for 30 minutes doesn’t apply if you have a crack in your back glass. I am sure most people have a crack they just haven’t seen yet. I have had every iphone since day 1 for me wife kids. This is first one with a cracked back glass.

very disappointed to see so many others have same issue. Most people put a case on phone and hinders wireless charging. Apple needs a fix or they loose me and my business’s
