iPhone 15 Pro Max Back Glass Durability

Hello, I’m interested in purchasing an iPhone 15 pro max, I have seen online that this model breaks very easily (back glass breaks with minimal pressure- JerryRigsEverything video). Has anyone else experienced this?

I disagree.

In his videos, he compared it to the iPhone 14, same tests. Significant difference in durability. In fact, the 14 did not break and with more pressure.

Yes, it was deliberately destroyed, 1 test at a time… I’m unaware how else you’d test durability. However, the first test was the back glass. The rest of the tests followed, and most praised.

A LOT of other videos have emerged as well. Popular Mac forums have published articles too. Same observations, and more with the camera falling off after a decent fall. Never in the history of iPhones has this happened, under extreme falls (Off Rooftops).

Pure speculation; I believe it’s a design flaw related to the back glass now being removable, and it will probably be fixed on the iPhone 16.

OP:

If you still get the 15… you’ll probably like it. But take extra precautions. Like a lanyard 😂.

My opinion, find an iPhone 14. It will cost less, performance comparisons are negligible (see tests online), and it has superior durability.

I’ve worked for all three major carriers. I am trading my 12 pro max in with a great trade in program however w/ an otterbox it the bottom of the phone has cracked. I preach to customers to have a case. I am looking to return this within my buyers remorse period but not sure if they have a 12 pro max. I am annoyed because I do the trade in two years. With known issues or a more sensitive back and overheating what are my options? Again my phone is my baby and within first week it cracks in case ?

Sorry I’m not buying spontaneous breaking in a purse. You hit your purse against something, or something happened, but it didn’t “just break” in your purse. Where’s the pictures? You can upload pictures via this forum.

Then one person says “I just talked to my friend and his broke….”

Pictures or I call “That didn’t happen for $1,000 Alex.”

I'm data driven, and it's also not my first day on the internet. As a tech employee people go to great lengths to trash new products from competitors, I see it every year.

So yeah, forgive me for not believing you that it spontaneously broke.

Also I dropped and broked my 14 PM, from about 5.5 feet in a case rated for 6 foot drops, on my kitchen floor, it broke, and I got it fixed. So they idea that the a phone breaking is a design flaw is a bit rubbish.

Where's the data that shows that? A smattering of complaints from millions of devices sold isn't solid data, it doesn't actually indicate there's a design flaw. Heck in our quality department a 2% failure rate is acceptable, it could be a bad batch of backs for all we know.

Personally, I love my 15 PM and have dropped it 4 times now without any issues.

Will you please share all the data you’ve collected? That will help the rest here make a sound decision before purchasing.

I searched this discussion forum from last year and on the internet, and only found one offs for the 14PM. TBH, I didn’t search for prior years as that’s what I have currently.

If you find any technical articles on how the 15PM is built and why it’s just as durable despite the design change of the frame and removable back glass, please share those too. Looks like we both have a similar background in IT, so I’ll understand.

I saw the CR test, that was cool to see how they test them.  However, I personally prefer real world tests. Like bumping a packed fanny pack into a grocery cart and the back glass breaking.

Glad you’re enjoying the 15PM!
