I cloud storage full

Hello! Its a couple of months now where i keep getting a notification that i need to back up my iphone to icloud. As i go check my icloud, i realize my icloud storage is full. 50gb full. I come to the conclusion that 47gb is due to backups ??? How is that possible. Ive deleted all my old messages, i have 200 pictures, ive turned off icloud backups on apps i dont use, how can i remove data on my backups to regain that storage back? TIA
