how to fix duplicate bluetooth entries for the same device in macbook air

Every time I tried connecting my bluetooth mouse to the macbook air I have to initiate the Discover step which mean I can't use the paired one which i have been using. Is this a limitation in mac air.

I also have the same issue with multiple duplicates of devices of different brands (example: 5 of the same for my mouse, 7 of the same for my keyboard.). I periodically forget all the devices but they just come back. For a few moments after starting my machine my keyboard will work, then it will lose connection and I have to reconnect. Something strange is going on with bluetooth.
