Use a Ringtone as Text Tone on iPhone - iOS 17

Since the iOS 17 update I have not been able to assign a ringtone as a text tone. How can I do this now?

I’ve even gone and bought new ringtones and told it to assign the tone as a text tone to a specific contact yet no luck!! Why??

Our on call staff rely on a text message with a ring tone assigned to a particular contact in order to be notified in the middle of the night. It needs to be something loud and persistent.

That is no longer an option. Text tones can't be longer than 30 seconds. You can let Apple know what you'd like to see here:

Meanwhile, you might consider going to Settings>Notifications>Messages>Customize Notifications>Repeat Alerts and set it to 10 times.

I agree, we're sometimes on call 24/7 and the alarms comes mostly during nights when I'm asleep. Ringtones was the best, long and annoying sounds that surely will wake the whole house. Since IOS17 this is now gone, now the only choosable sounds is mostly crapy single tones that not even wakes up the dog or cat.

So the solution is to buy ringtones? Well that wont work either since to company dicieded to implement MDM and restict almost everything, including log on apple-ID. So I would suggest Apple implements the the use of ringtones to text messages again.

I agree that the changes made to ringtones and text tones are not acceptable and this should be returned to pre-iOS17 standards, this was not a good thing to do to longtime loyal iPhone users.

Please don't presume to speak for all users. It's just possible that not everyone shares your opinion.

Help! I need each contact to have a specified text tone that is the same ringtone to identify caller! How do I do that on my new iPhone 15?

I don't know if this would work, and I am not willing to spend the money to test it. However, if you go to Settings>Ringtones and buy a ringtone and then repeat the procedure with Settings>Text Tone, you may be able to download the same tone for both purposes.

There may also be a way to do it by creating your own tones with Garageband.

I spent an hour on phone yesterday for another issue - calls going to VM - which people are writing about here but Apple didn’t know was affecting so many. Issue was fixed. Moral -CALL SUPPORT instead of posting same thing here. Thank you

I really like the new ringtones however, it is very frustrating to not be able to use the same ringtone and text tone for a specific individual. This is got to be fixed! I have some individuals who I need to respond ASAP. It was easy when I had the same ringtone and text tone for those individuals. Please fix this!
