Custom text tone for contact

Can someone please explain to me why did Apple remove the option to set custom ringtones for specific contacts for iPhone with the IOS 17 update??? I was able to do it with IOS16 but I can’t now. What was the reason behind that? That feels like an unnecessary change, only for Apple to add new ringtone and text tones. It feels like taking a huge step back.

Custom Text Tones Gone in iOS 17?!? After updating to iOS 17, I no longer have the ability to use my custom text tones for individual contacts. They don't even appear as an option. Everything was fine until I went to change one. I tried to change it back to the original tone I was using and it's gone. PLEASE tell me this is just a bug that will get fixed?!?

Contact ringtones reset to default after IOS upgrade? On my iPhone SE, I have assigned different ringtones and alert tones to certain contacts -- NOT custom, just the choices already included with the phone. Each time Apple does an iOS upgrade, the ringtones and alert tones return to default and I have to start over. How can I prevent upgrades from resetting the tones to the default?

Custom ringtones only show under Ringtones section and not on anything else like Text Tone, New Voicemail, etc. Has anyone had issues trying to set custom ringtones for other apps such as your default text tone or new voicemail tone? The correct format files are on my phone and show up fine under the Ringtones section in Sound & Haptics, but anywere else you can't see the other files. They are well below the 30 second limit and in the correct format. I noticed this before the latet iOS update as well and thought nothing of it. I've checked on setting certain tones for contacts and am only able to set the rigntone and not the text tone. At this point I'm trying to get my chirp tone back for text messages and have that for my default tone. I tried changing it to another tone and trying to look for the tone I wanted, but couldn't find it and tapped on another tone which essentially wiped it out. I am now ony able to select the stock/factory tones. In summary, files only show up under the Ringtones section and not anywhere else to set for text, voicemail, etc. Phone: iPhone 13 Pro iOS: 17.0.1
