I bought a new iphone 15pro and was try to set it up using my old iphone. After setting up the wallet, data transfer just gets cancelled and only gives me option to reset. I did it twice and got very fed up since it would get stuck at the same step. This is very frustrating.

Skip Apple wallet and faceID during the setup and make sure you upgrade the iOS first - to do this you’d have to set it up as a new phone (without copying data from your old iPhone). Once upgraded to latest iOS factory reset the phone and then set it up again and transfer the data from old iPhone but skip faceID and wallet
July 1st 2024, this issue is still there. Both iPhones' IOS is 17.5.1. One is iPhone 12 and the other is iPhone 15 Pro. The only thing that worked for me is choosing "Add card later" option for each card that I had in the Apple Wallet.

I had the same Issue. First is to free up enough space on your old Phone. I deleted some apps and freed up 12 GBs of space in my old 128 GB Iphone 11. Then you need to update your IOS on your old phone.Also keep both phones really close to each other, touching. Then try your transfer. Also keep your Apple ID password ready.
in the store they made sure both phones were updated to latest software. after three hours and two cancelled transfers I skipped the face id and apple pay set up and said set up later and the transfer finally worked. It initially said 11 hours! but took maybe 2. upgraded from pro max 12 to pro max 15. In summary, make sure both phones are latest software, skip face id and apple pay set up and SHOULD be good to go
Yeah, after a bunch of these "Transfer Cancelled" messages. I came here and then I skipped the broken ApplePay migration part and it eventually worked.
The phone then reboots and spends the next 20 minutes downloading all of my apps. Although not all app data (like downloaded Spotify songs etc.) which I had to do app by app. Annoying enough that I will give this "easy" process a C+.
But the ApplePay part not working part is total amateur hour - Apple QA (or the lack thereof) strikes again.
Like I've said for years - Apple may make world-leading hardware and but Apple software is a joke.
The way I got it to work was by not setting up the wallet, you can do it afterwards, the software issue is somewhere in the cards/wallet set up
What worked for me is skipping face ID and Wallet setups.
New iphone was then updated to IOS 17xx and transfer began
I encountered the same data transfer failed problem. Having read the comments above, I tried again, did not set up the Wallet, used wired data transfer, and it all worked fine.
I left the default IOS on the 15 (18.0.1) and 17.6.1 on my iPhone SE (3 gen).
No the annoying fix is you'll need to up date the New Handset to the latest iOS FIRST seperately without pairing it.
You'll then need to "Reset" the handset again. Then attempt to re-pair the usual way. Its annoying but it works.
NOTE: I know the boss of Apple Tony and he actually brought it up at his staff meeting so rest assured they listen!👍🏽
If it pauses or stops from transferring, you'll need to update the handset first then re-wipe it! Reset it! Then try again. I hope this helps
