Updated to Sonoma and computer is slower than dial-up

I have a 2021 iMac and upgraded to Sonoma tonight. I've truly have no clue how we managed to use dial-up because I do not remember it being this slow for EVERYTHING! Typing this message took about 5 minutes to make it to this line because it continually stopped and gave a loading circle. Everything that opens at login took 10 minutes before actually opening, Safari has said (Not Responding) when I try to Force Quit. Absolutely nothing works unless I'm willing to wait 10 minutes for every single application. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Something is clearly wrong. So there is not too much guessing…

Install EtreCheck and post the report. Allow Full Disk Access.

I’m attempting to disable the Screensavers now but even System Settings took about 4 minutes of icon bouncing before opening and trying to choose what settings I’d like to view takes between 5-10 minutes so disabling is a nightmare. My new MacBook is doing the exact same unfortunately.

I’ll have to give it a look. It was just unfamiliar to me. Currently sitting with a screen that doesn’t want to downgrade now that I’ve taken the steps so whenever I get my computer back to life I can actually look into it. Thank you!

UPDATE!

So the problem still persists. What I have noticed is that my MacBook slows down whenever I’m using an external monitor, in this case my iPad Air. I thought that because I was using the wireless connection, that it may have been the problem, but even when using the USB-C cable to extend the display, my MacBook Air slows down. It feels like the processor is overloaded and the RAM memory is all ate up by apps and processes.

I’m really frustrated I cannot do my homework.

I haven’t used my iPad with it as a second screen yet but I do like to use it that way sometimes. Sad to know it’s going to be an issue.

I’ve been on multiple phone calls with Apple techs and trying to get it fixed with them. At this point it seems there’s literally nothing that can be done until another update comes out. This is so infuriating!!

Mine is not as bad, luckily, but it's painful to use Chrome and switching between programs is super slow as well. Plus when I switch from using my external monitor to just using my laptop monitor, the dock suddenly disappears.

Yes, I’ve restarted it then also fully shut down and turned it back on. I left it overnight and still it’s operating at the same speed and all applications keep saying Not Responding.

It doesn't install anything, the archive file when opened yields a fully delectable app.

I am having the same problem! My iMac is running extremely slow on everything! Startup, opening programs take forever! Is there a workaround to solve this problem?

My macbook air is extremely slow while using Safari. Oddly enough, Microsoft Edge is nearly instant. I guess I'll be using Edge until Apple can figure this out.
