sharing an Apple ID causes confusion

My husband and I share the same Apple ID. As he is not tech savvy, I've always found it easier just to use my Apple ID - his iPad and Apple Watch use my Apple ID. Purchases of apps and books show up on both his and my devices. That's always worked until now. Even though his watch is associated with his phone, Apple Health records my information only and not his. How would I correct this?
