Only Apple Authorized Service Centres or Apple Stores have the necessary Apple Parts to perform this service

If this local service centre does not qualify as an Apple Authorized Server Centre >> Take it back to them and tell them to fix this

It should Not be required to Wipe the Drive 100% Clean and reinstall the operating system for the Touch ID to function IMHO

A - Have the computer evaluated by the Professionals who have the Special Hardware Software and Expertise to diagnose the issue and offer possible solutions

B - Make an Appointment at the Apple Genius Bar or call 1 800 MyApple and have them evaluate the computer

If using the Apple Touch ID configured Keyboard

Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad for Mac models with Apple Silicon

The key thing is this Keyboard Requires and Apple Silicon Computer for the Touch ID to function

If your computer is an Apple Silicon Computer and using the above keyboard

First try using the suppled Cable to connect the Keyboard to computer

Make sure Switch on the Keyboard is Turned ON

Does the Touch ID in System Setting Appear

If not, Turn OFF the keyboard and pause 5 seconds.

Now Turn the keyboard back ON

so the MacBook im using is a 2017 MacBook Pro Touch Bar I took it to a local service store in the area and told me that the Touch ID button needs to be replaced cuz of its own wires are a bit damaged so I told them to buy one and I install after doing this he told me I need to erase the System and reinstall it so the system can read the new Touch ID config I did this twice yet though id is not appearing anywhere after more searching I could reach the touchID.PrefPane file /System/Library/PreferencePanes/touchID.prefPane but its at zero KB when I double click the file it just opens system settings and nothing happens I hope this issue is clear now
