Mobile number showing as unavailable to iMessage and FaceTime

I get this message

This phone number cannot be used by Imessage and Facetime. You must have a SIM associated with an Apple Device for xxx to be used for Imessage and Facetime

Is this because my number has ported today and will hopefully work in a few hours?

I have tried a network reset and turning off the phone and turning imessage on and off numerous times.

The sim card works and I can make and receive calls and text messages

I get the verification code from Apple too

I had the same problem.

Got a new SIM with a ‘temporary’ number, iPhone started using that new number for iMessage.

I successfully ported my ‘old’ number to the SIM but iPhone got stuck on the ‘temporary’ number.

Advice elsewhere is generally to switch off iMessage and Facetime then restart the phone and switch them back on. Didn’t work for me; the ‘temporary’ number was still there and also remained under ‘settings -> apple id -> my iPhone’.

The missing step is to go to Settings -> Messages and enable iMessage. Choose ‘send & receive’ just below the enable button. Click on your apple id off the bottom of the list of contact methods and ‘sign out’ the iMessage account.

Do the same in Facetime settings.

Then enable iMessage and sign in at the same place and it should update to your new number.

I am having this same issue. Contacted the carrier and they said to contact apple...the guidelines provided in the support section are still of no help. I should also that I recently ported my number from one carrier to the next but the imessage and facetime issues have been going on with the previous carrier as well.


I really dont know what to do again and getting into contact with someone directly from apple seems to be impossible

We'd recommend reaching out to your carrier to determine if the port has completed successfully, and that you have SMS enabled on your account. SMS is carrier side messaging that is required to activate iMessage and FaceTime on your device.
