iPad keeps asking to configure apple id

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254656890#

My mother has been having this very same issue for a number of iOS iterations and I too have concluded that it must be 2FA related. Since she doesn't have another Apple device and only uses her iPad for email and occasional web browsing we didn't deem it necessary to set up 2FA. Doing so would mean that she would need to move to another room to answer her landline when Apple called, be prepared to write down the code given over the phone, then go back to the other room to enter it into her iPad. She is 91 so asking her to take her iPad with her when the phone rang is unfair.

The reason this is such a nuisance is that one of those Apple Services that isn't available is FaceTime. I can tell she has the little red dot in Settings because when I try to FT her she shows as no longer set up for FT. It is only once she goes through the Apple hoops that she reappears as available. What seems to be irritating is that she can FT me but now the reverse. It means that I have to telephone her and either ask that she FT me back, or walk her through the Updating Apple ID so that those "Apple Services" become available again.

My question now is if we capitulate and turn 2FA on, when might she need to use it? We have turned automatic updates off because those require her to log back into her Apple ID.

If your iPad keeps asking to configure an Apple ID, it could be due to a few different reasons. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Check Internet Connection: Ensure that your iPad is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network or cellular data.
  2. Verify Apple ID Credentials:
    • Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iTunes & App Store and make sure you're signed in with the correct Apple ID.
    • If you're not signed in, enter the correct Apple ID and password.
  1. Update iOS:
    • Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check if there's an available update for your iPad. If so, update to the latest iOS version.
  1. Sign Out and Sign In Again:
    • Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Sign Out. Then sign back in with the correct Apple ID.
  1. Check for Pending App Downloads:
    • If there are apps that are waiting to be downloaded or updated, it might prompt you to sign in.
  1. Reset Network Settings:
    • Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note that this will reset Wi-Fi networks and passwords, as well as cellular settings.
  1. Check Date and Time Settings:
    • Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure that "Set Automatically" is enabled.
  1. Review iCloud Settings:
    • Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud and ensure you're signed in with the correct Apple ID.
  1. Try a Different Wi-Fi Network:
    • Connect to a different Wi-Fi network to see if the issue persists.
  1. Contact Apple Support:
    • If none of the above steps work, you may want to contact Apple Support for further assistance. They may be able to help you diagnose the issue.

Remember, it's important to use your Apple ID and password only in official Apple apps and settings. Be cautious of any prompts that ask for this information from unfamiliar sources.
