white fading border around macbook pro display

So I have a mid-2015 MacBook Pro, and its now 2023. I am following on from an identically titled thread from 2020 which now seems to be closed, with no resolution. Here's the issue:

Returning to a sleeping Mac, with lid closed, on opening the lid the screen was black. No amount of pressing keys, pressing power button, openine and closing the lid would bring it to life. I pressed the power key long enough to shut down the machine, then pressed it again, and the machine responded, with this:

This is identical to a previous poster and their respondents in 2020. As with the previous poster, the Mac booted up, with its white border, which slowly is disappearing as time progresses. Previous posters did not have a re-occurence of the issue, but not knowing what caused it and what may cause it again, and if ignoring the warnings may prove inconveniently fatal to the machine, it would be useful to know if anyone has found the cause of the problem.

Battery issues were considered with the previous poster, but did not lead to identifying a cause.

Fwiw, I'm still running Yosemite (I know, I know..., but I have my reasons). The problem seemed to occur with later OSs as well.

So what does it look like when fully booted up... Does it resolve or persist?

If I had to guess it looks like a display assembly issue.

Hi John Howarth,

Thanks for connecting with us here in Apple Support Communities. Do you only notice this outline on your Mac when you're unable to wake it from sleep? If you notice issues with the display consistently then you can try resetting the NVRAM on your Mac as it stores peripheral data such as volume, display resolution and brightness, and it may help to address the issue you're facing. You can see how to do so here: Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

Regards.

Over about 20mins to half an hour the problem disappeared and everything returned to normal. This is also the experience of people who previously posted about this same problem. It has not reoccurred with my Mac, and the other posters reported a similar result.

Whilst it seems I no longer have a problem, something weird definitely happened, and it would be good to know what it means or what caused it. Will it happen again? Will it be more catastrophic next time if I take no action?.
