So this is the status from Quickbooks from here:

This specifically from that link:

At this time, there's no mentioned ETA for when macOS Sonoma (version 14) will be compatible with QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021. The program doesn't fully support yet which might cause the issue you're encountering in the system.

Furthermore, we recommend running the QBDT for Mac program on a supported operating system. Here's an article for your reference: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021.

Additionally, you can visit and read this article for more details about storing a backup copy of your business: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file. It also gives you step-by-step instructions on how to set up automatic backups of your company files.

Partial solution for accessing files in QB 2019:

In applications, pressing simultaneously Command and Shift keys double click in QB.

This will allow to open the customer data and other functions. Any intention to record or edit will crash QB but at least data is available. Also, it is possible to export data to QB online and in Windows format which leaves a file in the format QBB which can be uploaded to QB online.

"This may be a great business plan for QB but it destroys good faith with legacy owners of their software. I think if you believe they will update their older software to be compatible with Sonoma, you are sadly mistaken. That's not going to happen."

And why should any company support their software in perpetuity? ALL of the major software developers have moved to subscription services, including Microsoft, Intuit, Adobe, et al. A subscription guarantees the user receives the very latest update, bug fixes, new features, etc. And in the case of QB the subscription is tax deductible if you are in business. I subscribe to Microsoft 365 and Quicken and know I will not have issues as macOS evolves and improves.

Thank you so much for your post.

I've been using QB 2023 desktop, updated OS to to Sonoma, so of course QB wouldn't open, purchased QB Online Simple Start, but haven't started using it yet.

Thanks to your post, I updated OS to 14.1, opened desktop QB 2020 and it worked. Now I'll see if I can "return" the online version and continue with the desktop version.

I spoke with QB support yesterday, and they pressed me to upgrade QB desktop to 2023 for $600+ per year or move to QB online. After 15 min of haggling with them, the rep told me the Sonora update should be out in the next week or so and to check in next week. This happened on Oct 3rd. If anyone hears about an update release, please post to this thread. Have a great day!

Intuit has already admitted they are not concerned about anyone using QB 2019 or 2020, they want to force us all to pay the new annual fee. Intuit supposedly has updated newer versions of QB so they will work with Sonoma and one Intuit rep said that Intuit has told Apple what the problem is so Apple can fix it if they want to. I hope someone from Apple is listening and cares that it is the Sonoma iOS that is causing so many of us Apple/QB users significant problems and they will get a fix out quickly.

I just discovered that my QB 2019 crashes every time I try to open it since I downloaded Sonoma. The Apple techs told me they are aware of the problem now but their engineers have not even started on a fix. Apple support tried to tell me to go back to Ventura but that won't work. I really hate Apple right now and a glad I don't have small business that I am trying to run with an Apple computer and Quickbooks. Come on Apple please get this problem fixed!!

Hi,

QuickBooks crashing issues can be resolved by following these steps:

  1. Update QuickBooks: Ensure you have the latest software updates installed to fix known bugs and compatibility issues.
  2. System Requirements: Verify that your computer meets QuickBooks' system requirements, including adequate RAM and disk space.
  3. Data File Integrity: Run the built-in File Doctor tool to check and repair data file issues.
  4. Third-party Apps: Disable or update any conflicting third-party applications or add-ons.
  5. User Profile: Create a new Windows user profile and run QuickBooks from there.
  6. Reinstall QuickBooks: If all else fails, uninstall and reinstall QuickBooks.
  7. Contact Support: If problems persist, seek assistance from QuickBooks customer support.

By following these steps, you can usually resolve QuickBooks keeps crashing issues.
