Apple watch unable to check on software update

Hello I completed the latest update on my iphone and Apple watch SE. When I went to check if the update was successful on my watch I received a message which reads: "Unable to check for update An error occured while checking for a software update." I did complete a software update on my iphone . I also tried restarting both my iphone and apple watch to see if I could check on the software update status. Please advise. Thank you
