New iPhone 15 to use in Mexico

My friend has an iPhone 6S+ she uses in Mexico with a Mexican service provider (Tel Cel). She wants to upgrade to an iPhone 15. Can I buy a new iPhone 15 from Apple here in the USA and take it to Mexico and simply transfer her data from the old 6S to the new 15? Will her service automatically transfer or does TelCel have to do something? Sim card?

Hello GDaddyT,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you want to purchase an iPhone 15 in the United States for your friend to use in Mexico and wanted to know if it’ll work in Mexico. We are happy to help.

The iPhone 15 sold in the United States uses dual eSIM. We do show that her carrier, TelCel, that supports eSIM activation here: Find wireless carriers and worldwide service providers that offer eSIM service - Apple Support

"Mexico

  1. AT&T
  2. TelCel
  3. Movistar"

You can view the iPhone models here: Identify your iPhone model - Apple Support We recommend having her contact TelCel to ensure that she will be able to use the iPhone 15 sold in the United States with her carrier.

"iPhone 15

  1. Capacity: 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB
  2. Colors: Black, Blue, Green, Yellow, Pink
  3. Model numbers: A2846 (United States, Puerto Rico), A3089 (Canada, Guam, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and U.S. Virgin Islands), A3092 (China mainland, Hong Kong, Macao), A3090 (other countries and regions)"

She can use these steps to set up her new iPhone: Set up your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

  1. "Turn on your iPhone or iPad
  2. Choose the size of text and icons on your phone
  3. Use Quick Start or set up manually
  4. Activate your iPhone or iPad
  5. Set up for you or for a child
  6. Set up Face ID or Touch ID and create a passcode
  7. Restore or transfer your data and apps
  8. Sign in with your Apple ID or another Apple device
  9. Turn on automatic updates and set up other features"

These steps may help. Please let us know if you have further questions.

Take care.
