How to fix 5 second audio delay on homepod when playing/pausing youtube, netflix, spotify... on macbook?

Homepod 2 successfully connects with macbook pro, but when streaming from youtube, netflix, spotify and other apps from a macbook, there is a distinct audio delay on the homepod 2 whenever clicking pause or play.

When clicking pause, it keeps on playing for 5 seconds before it actually pauzes.

When clicking play again, it only starts playing after 5 seconds.

Some apps have a dedicated airplay button which allows for smooth controls without delays. But many apps have not.

When connecting to external Edifier speakers through bluetooth, all this delay goes away and everything works smooth. Shouldn't this be the case with the homepod as well?

Hi there dezwier,

You'll want to start by making sure both your Mac and HomePod are updated to the latest software and firmware. The links below will help with that:

Update HomePod - Apple Support

If both devices are updated and you're still experiencing this delay, try resetting your HomePod to see if that resolve the issue for you: Reset HomePod or HomePod mini - Apple Support

If this behavior persists, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support directly for further assistance. They're best-equipped to take a closer look at the issue and provide some additional guidance. This link will help you get started: Apple Support

Take care.
