When I download files in Sonoma, all files are hidden, I have to use command+shift+. to make those files unhidden, any idea about how to fix this issue? Every file(including regular image and google doc) downloaded is hidden, which makes no sense...

Hi All,
I found on Reddit that it's possibly an issue with Google Chrome and the default download setting. I updated all of my Google Chrome profile download settings and switched them to save the files in my Downloads folder, and the files are no longer hidden.
Go to Google Chrome -> Settings -> Downloads.
I also reactivated my iCloud Drive Sync this Mac and Desktop & Documents Folders settings because I like sharing files between my devices.
Go to System Settings -> Click on your Apple ID name -> iCloud -> iCloud Drive.

I did not have that setting turned on in Chrome and my files still are still hidden.
Not for me I have 14.1 installed and my files are still hidden.
macOS 14.1.1 hasn't fixed it either. I guess we will see a fix in 2030 in macOS 20.1
Seems like after every update I have to unhide files. When I unhide files I also get an alias desktop and documents folder as well.
I did the exact same thing, didn't update my MacBook Pro, any resolution, sometime I download files that are hidden and sometimes they aren't, it's very frustrating
If your download folder is synced with iCloud, it may cause files to be randomly hidden.
I think Apple need to fix it.
Do you download via Chrome?
Yes they are synced with iCloud , the same way it’s been since started that sync with iCloud

It doesn't really matter where you downloaded it, it's all the same, but some time its visible regularly, and most of the time it's invisible!!
Same problem - PDFs, JPGs, PNGs, hidden when downloaded from Chrome. Have updated Chrome and the latest Sonoma bug fix. Still a problem, Sort it out Apple!

When I tried the terminal command fix, although the files now appear in Finder, they're all grayed out and remain so when moved into other locations.
