Recurrent error when there is no issue with internet access. Apple Studio Display firmware update could not be completed. Make sure Mac is connected to the internet and try again. If the problem persists, contact Apple Support.

Yes, thank you, that also worked for me. By unplugging ethernet firmware update was successful over WiFi. Apple Support please take note. Apple Developers please test that firmware updates work with ethernet also.
I got "Internal error please quit system settings and try again" - over and over. Rebooted, etc no change.
I unplugged the ethernet cable from my MacStudio and used WiFi and it worked. Apple - really????
Worked great (MatthewJWallaby59), my update was stuck too. When I read this thead, I turned the wifi on and upgrade finished almost immediately. Before this I had unplugged the monitor, unplugged the usb c, to no avail.
My problem solved when I disconnected ethernet and relied on wireless

Some users seem to have success after unplugging ethernet. I never had ethernet; I am on wireless and the issue persists.
Getting similar message:

If the problem persists, contact Apple Support.

It may be a bug with new os versions, and we can set you up with an appointment at your local Apple Store if youd like!
