workout app pausing with Watch series 9

I have the series 9 watch and it is pausing after a few seconds when i am working out/ walking etc. I have turned off auto pause. strap is snug against my wrist and have the latest software on my phone and watch.

Anyone else have this problem and was able to fix it.
