It's a scam. Nothing else. Ignore it.

Per the news site, like a lot of web sites, they generate income by allowing ads from third parties. They generally have little control over what ads get displayed. But, you can complain to the news site that the ad vendor is allowing scam ads on their system.

It's nothing more than a sound clip that's part of the web page / popup. You'd get that no matter what device you were on. And it's loud on purpose. They intentionally cranked up the volume on the clip to get your attention and scare the user.

And why does this make you hate Apple? They have nothing - ZERO - to do with what a scam site threw out. Android phone? You'd get the same thing. Google Pixel phone? You'd get the same thing. It's coming from the SITE, not your iPhone.

Want it to stop? Don't go back to that web site.

And oh, sure, wonderful. The "Best" reply so far is nothing but a fact free, fear mongering response. Like that helps anyone.

All that happened was you got onto a web page that was trying to scam you. Ignore it.

Of course there's nothing playing. It's a fake scan the crooks hope you'll fall for.

Would you hate Android then if you saw the same scam on a Galaxy phone?

Apple can't control the Internet. Neither can any other phone or computer maker. Scams are out there by the thousands. It's up to the user to learn to recognize them.

My wife clicked on a legitimate news article, and she got "Scanning your device" with an action of a red line, and then it quit. Is this just cookies being sent to the news article creator of the new article, or is her phone information being copied and compromised? Scary!

I called Apple and spoke to one of their higher up tech support and got zero answers. I can’t tell you how many times I have had iPhone related issues and gotten no answers or explanations from tech support. I think it’s time to switch to a flip phone or a carrier pigeon. I hate Apple.
