Alert and system sounds are too loud and do not respect the volume level set in the “Sounds and Haptics” settings

I’m running the latest iOS 17 on an iPhone 15 Pro Max, media volume is at a comfortable level, the volume level in the “Sounds and Haptics” settings is set to minimum (changing the volume in these settings gives an audio preview that is also comfortable). When in silent mode my phone makes no sound… all is good so far.

However, when receiving a message, sending a mail, or any other alert that is accompanied by a sound, the volume is at maximum level… it’s so loud it’s embarrassing. Has anyone else got this issue? Or any suggestions for a fix.

Thank you in advance!

If anyone is still having this issue, I've noticed an odd behavior and way to adjust the 'other than obvious' volume for system tones and such. I notice this issue especially when using Speech to Text. When I turn on/off as I'm using it, the tone that sounds was ridiculously loud. No system volume settings that I could find were relevant.

Here's what I found - Go to any text field that you can use Speech to Text in and enable it. The second the tone sounds, adjust your volume. The idea is to adjust the volume while the tone is the 'active sound', so to speak. This allowed me to adjust the volume of the system tones.

I hope this helps. Apple makes a generally solid product, but things like this are rough-draft material.
