Apple ProRes iPhone Video Recording Dropped Frames

i recorded a 30 minute clip on an iPhone 15 Pro, using 4k Pro Res 60 fps.

I recorded to an external drive that is USC-C to Micro B Male (USB 3.0 speeds of 5Gbps).

The video is so choppy, it’s unusable. It registers at 24fps on QuickTime, but there will be seconds of video that will be a frozen frame on the source footage.

A few questions:

  1. What did I do wrong? Is the USB-C hard drive not fast enough?
  2. is there anyway to recover the footage? Was the data never recorded in the first place?
  3. Whats the longest clip length you recommend for 30 minutes?

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 17
