My MacBook pro is asking for my pin number. My password isn't working

How can I retrieve or establish a new PIN without access to another Apple device?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.6

Hello CTH0624,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. We'd like to help out. This resource does share some information related to what you're seeing: If your Mac doesn't start up all the way - Apple Support

Your Mac asks for a PIN code when it has been remotely locked using Find My. Enter the four-digit or six-digit passcode to continue.

This means that your Mac has been locked using Find My. More information is shared here: If your Mac is lost or stolen - Apple Support

If you forgot the PIN code that was provided to you when locking the Mac via Find My, it might still be accessible by using Find My on an iPhone using the same Apple ID or you can visit the iCloud website and login with the same Apple ID used on your Mac.

We hope this information is useful. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Take care.
