Why can you no longer search for photos by date? For example, if I wanted to see all my photos over the years from October 1, I would simply search the date and click on the date that would pop up. Now, when you search for the date there is no date popup and you just photos across a variety of dates.

It shows on the iOS 17 User Guide that you should be able to search the Photos app by date: Search for photos on iPhone. To troubleshoot this, you can follow the first three steps in If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open as the app is not working as expected. The Photos app is not able to be removed which is why step 4 won't work for your situation.
If it continues, note: "If the app is made by Apple or came with your iPhone or iPad, contact Apple Support for your iPhone or for your iPad."

I have the same issue too, I used to love reviewing what I was doing on this day, I'd simply type on Oct 22 and I'd get every photo since about 2003 on my photos from that day & month. Now all I get is anything that contains what looks like 'oct' or '22' in the picture. It's the same on Sonoma too - completely dumb idea removing this feature. Setting the primary language also doesn't help as some suggest, though given I don't speak fluent French switching to French would not exactly be a helpful workaround.
Hopefully someone at Apple will see the light and sort this
I search the current date every day to see what i was doing AND to delete any clutter i don’t need to keep. so after a year your photos are way less cluttered. oh well. I tend to think this is a bug and like someone mentioned it’s going to be fixed in 17.1 which should be pushed soon.
I’ve done the language trick on both iPhone and Mac.
In my experience, works on both but the Mac is much easier to manage because you can set the language at the App level (ie for Photos only) where in the iPhone you have the change the language for the entire iPhone.

I don't have issues searching by month or year, but for some reason it's not letting me search by specific day anymore.
This was a terrible decision. Who doesn’t want to see an “on this day” in their photos. This will migrate me to Amazon as my photo management app.
WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS. This was the single best feature of photos. I will 100% find some other app to look at photos from now on.
That is not something I had thought of but - holy smokes! - it did work for me.
Makes me think that this might not be intentional - perhaps a problem with US date formats?
If that's the case maybe we'll see a fix at some point.
mmraoua - So here's a crazy next step hack that seems to be working - at least on macOS Sonoma - have not found a similar option that allows apps to use a different language than the system language in iOS.

On MacOS Sonoma, rather than set the language for your entire device to French...
Go to Settings>Language and Region>Applications, add the Photos app and select French as the region.
The Photo app (only) will be in French and as long as you use French date conventions (ie 2.10 for October 2) search will return all photos in your Library taken on October 2 of all years.
Who knew!?!

Hi all - just switched my primary language to French and everything looks good ! I was able to search date for a specific day !

It is also working with the language set to German.
It's beyond odd that the english language itself seems to be the culprit (macOS). Sure hope they fix this soon, it's very inconvenient in my workflow.
