Strange mouse click issue after updating Sonoma on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro M1 2020, it's having some strange mouse click issues right after I updated to macOS Sonoma. Anyone having the same problem? I hope Apple fixes the problem soon, it's irritating.

It was happening because I had McAfee total protection enabled. It's all fixed, mcAfee total protection will have to come out with an an update so it will be compatible with macOS Sonoma. I contacted Apple about it and they was doing a screen share. I disabled the virus protection.

I've been experiencing the same thing for weeks now. Yesterday, I upgraded to Sonoma; it's the same as before (if not worse). I use Magic Mouse (newest gen), but it does not matter; it's the same as when I used the trackpad.

I have spent more than 3K on my current mac. For me, it is completely unacceptable that a company like Apple (who also sells their machines at a brutally overpriced price) approaches this issue in this way and has failed to find a solution to such a central problem in weeks. I progress slowly at work, I can't click on basic things with a one-year-old machine. Who will pay me the overtime I managed to accumulate in 3 weeks?

I don't think it's Apple... For whom it's more important to release updates and software solutions without normal testing (just because a new line of products is getting released). Outrageous.

Same here! My razer mouse stopped, then iPod … called apple support and technician couldn’t resolve, passed to coordinator and we stayed in call per about SIX hours (screwed my job’s day) and my Mac Studio showed many issues after Sonoma even memory! So erased the whole thing and started from zero …. Hours setting everything again! Five days later the mouse stopped again … I just can say I hate updates and being Mac user per years, these continuous software updates are killing me, not only on computers but iPhone too

And the coordinator couldn’t explain what had happened:( And I should say I’m lucky for having the apple care :-/

I'm having the same issue, same model of Mac. I notice it most when composing email or working within Pages or Google Docs, my mouse will highlight the line below the one my cursor is actually on. I've had to use the arrows on my keyboard instead which is time consuming and annoying. And copy and paste to move text is just impossible without the mouse. I've scrolled through some of the replies below and those solutions are not working for me. I don't have McAfee. And the issue is happening in both Safari and Chrome.

I have the MacBook Pro from 2019 and after I updated to Sonoma, my trackpad stopped clicking when I press it. Sometimes it works randomly, but mostly it doesn't work at all. I have to click things 1-5 times for it to actually select what I am trying to hit. It's very frustrating. I tried rebooting multiple times and it has not done anything. I do not have an anti-virus installed. Apple PLEASE fix this problem!

The latest update didn't solve the problem. So what they are updating, and why do they not look into it? Let me be clear. I do not use any external mouse. It's just the internal trackpad. There was no problem with Ventura .. It's all about BUGGY Sonoma. This bug is very annoying, as a developer why the heck I have to deal with switching pages just to make trackpad work in the middle of my intensive work? Dropdowns need hover and the hover of our precious Mac keeps disappearing!

I suggested MacBooks to my friends and family, and from this point on, I don't think it's a good choice.

Don't buy it if you haven't yet. And if you bought it, do not update it as Apple developers don't care about the bugs. Maybe they think it's a very little bug(clearly it's not) so, it can be postponed to a later date!

I have an "old" macbook PRO 15" from 2019. After Sonoma 14.2 (and still at 14.3.1) the trackpad click does not work in a game (using separate space), nor any mouse. Installed the game on other macbook with Yosemite still on and works fine.

So please, Apple do something about whatever you changed between 14.1 and 14.2. After 20 years I start to wonder whether I shoul give Windows a try.......

MX Master 3 mouse here. Mouse was working fine till May 15. Not sure if Logitech automagically updated my mouse firmware or if the 14.5 update mangled something as well. But I switch between my Mac and a work windows machine all day. But a few days ago I started having problems left clicking and selecting some windows and not selecting others. Even selecting iMessage people is not working. It is random as well. But the problem is on both system and doesn't matter if its bluetooth or dongle. But the really weird thing to me is the MBP trackpad is also behaving the same way. The keyboard, mouse and dongle can be removed and still does this same thing. Rebooting doesn't change any thing. I have taking the machine off the docking station powered off and on, but still having these problems.

Also noticed that when I am able to right click, I am unable to see spelling corrections. Not sure if thats any part of this madness. It seems like theres a general driver that other systems are using that might be the main problem.
