Strange mouse click issue after updating Sonoma on MacBook Pro

I have the same issue. I needed to force restart my Mac 3 times today during class in order to fix the problem temporarily. Likewise, I do not have any anti-virus software installed.

I updated my M1 Mac Mini yesterday. Now my mouse is acting totally weird, laggy and sometimes the cursor is just gone..... (mouse is an Apple bluetooth trackpad)

I hadn't noticed it was working while I hold the button. This will help until they fix it. Thanks!

Just updated to 14.2 and this issue is still occurring with an external mouse regardless of what app I’m in. I can even reproduce it on the desktop. My Mac is almost unusable like this.

I updated to 14.4 immediately, sure it works for a while only because you have to reboot but it comes back quickly enough.

I experience the same issues with ventura. Where i use to right click and/or double click on a file and choose how to open it. Now that doesn’t work. I have to drag the file into the program. 😣

The weird thing is, that it also happens on the AppleTV with the trackpad button. Clicks/tabs are ignored. So my guess is that the mouse driver used on all the devices is screwed up.

These mouse "problems" appears to be with the 3rd party mice, just as the 3rd party apps, which doesn't/cannot work with a Mac, not compatible yet.

The MBP's trackpad is excellent, but it is situated ergonomically not in the right place, being in the middle. The wrist has to bend awkwardly. But, Apple just can't put it in the right for the right handers, or on the left for the left handers. So, the next choice is the Magic Mouse. But, everyone is complaining that it is also ergonomically not good. And, because of that, I could buy one for less than 30% of its shop price. For the guy, who sold it, it was just a table ornament.

At the beginning, I found it strange too, it being that flat, that you can't rest your palm on it, that you have to use your fingers in "crab" way, using only one finger to click, one finger to scroll etc. Well no, it can be used differently and with comfort!

You can rest your wrist on the desk with 3 middle finger lying on it and the thumb and the little finger resting on the desk on both sides. Because of the low depth of the Magic Mouse, the wrist doesn't feel any stress. Now, you don't have lift the fingers to click, left click or right. You can use two fingers to scroll, up/down left/right, or even three fingers without lifting them off the surface. You move the mouse holding it with the thumb and the little finger with the 3 middle fingers resting on the surface. You can even zoom the desktop with Control + fingers going at an angle.

I have all kinds of mice, having used them with Windows and Linux. But, I've never found a comfortable and easy to use and exact mouse as the Magic Mouse. Now, I am even thinking of getting the Magic Trackpad, of course at about 30-40% its original price. But with the Magic Mouse around, I am afraid it would be unused and become desk ornament.

Hi Bianca. I'm having this issue too along with the mouse issue and some programs are getting stuck such as Excel. Never thought I would want to go back to Windows, but it is being a nightmare... And I don't see any interest of Mac in solving the issues

I came back here just to register my anger with Mac! It is impossible to work like this!!!! Everything is freezing! The Mac is making noise as if I was running something really heavy. It is worse then my old windows. This is not right!!! Something need to be done! I did half of the work I needed just because it all slow!!!

Suddenly my mouse is working again. I haven't done anything. I used it the entire day yesterday without working, and then, at night I used it at home and realised it was working (the only difference was that I was not using an extra screen). This morning I was wondering what would happen and it is still working... this is so weird, but I'm happy.

The issue is still not resolved in Sonoma 14.1.1. This is a serious bug that prevents people from working and using mac comfortably. I can't believe there is no fix after almost two months since Sonoma was released. I reported this bug to Apple, bo didn't receive any response. At this point im starting to believe they have no intention to fixing it at all.

Couldn't it be a problem with your Mac and/or the mouse or both, rather than with MacOS? Since this OP appeared here, I have bought a Magic Trackpad, a used one, in addition to the Magic Mouse I have. I have Sonoma 14.1.1 and don't find any problems you and others state here in my MBP, which is 4 1/2 years old. The Sonoma 14, 14.1 and 14.1.1 were updated through System Settings from Apple servers.

Yes, mine is 2018 intel 15" MBP. I never had a problem with the two Magic devices. They connected as they should and work as they should, with Sonoma, and Ventura before (only Magic Mouse at that time). Both devices were created in the Intel times. Anyway, Bluetooth connections can break from time to time, even though that never happened with my MBP (yet). I think Sonoma for Intel is different from Sonoma for M chips. Mine is,

Nope, definitely not a hardware issue! The track pad never had issues until the day I updated to the Sonoma operating system! I restarted and updated it and it worked for an hour or so. The computer went to sleep and had my screensaver up and I was back to square one! I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and a 2013 MacBook Pro that still work to this day! The 2013 had the Retina display issue with the screen but other than that, perfect and still fast surprisingly! My parents new 2023 imac is glitchy after this update as well!
