80% Charge Limit no longer working

80% limit has been working for me since I bought the iPhone 15 pro and suddenly stopped working yesterday. Doesn’t charge to 100% but a super slow leak past 80%. Charging all night it is up to 91%.

How hard can it be to limit the charge?

FIXED. For some reason, it seems that once the phone does charge over 80%, whatever apple is using to sense the battery is breaching the 80% threshold stops working, so it needs resetting. To do this follow these instructions:-

1. Wait until the phone is well under 80% - say at least 70% or lower (trying to fix this when the charge is already over 80% doesn't work).
2. In settings, change the charging optimisation setting to "None"
3. Reboot your iphone
4. Plug your iPhone in to charge for say 10 seconds.
5. Unplug your iphone
6. Change the charging optimisation method back to "80% Limit"
7. Charge as usual

This fixed it for me. Points 4 and 5 may not be needed, but these are the steps I followed in an attempt to force the phone to look at a new way of monitoring the charge before I changed it back to 80% Limit, and it worked, so I guess all the steps might be needed for you too.

I updated iOS to v17.1.2 and this feature stopped working. However it had worked before updating.

The phone will charge to 100% occasionally. This is normal. From Apple documentation:

It's Jan 2024, I'm on an iPhone 15pro updated to iOS 17.2.1 and this just started happening, and no response to ANYONE from Apple.

What gives? Anyone have any info?

I have the same issue on iPhone 15 Pro. It worked for weeks then suddenly not after upgrading to iOS 17.3.1

Meanwhile, for me this solution still works. Every now and then it starts to charge over the 80%. All I do then is allow my phone discharged to around 70%, go into settings and turn off all battery charging optimisation. Then reboot your phone, then go back into settings and turn the 80% limit back on. Then it is fixed again.

I don’t think this has been resolved. I got it working again by switching it to ‘optimised battery charging’ for a day or so, then switching it back. But that solution only lasted a few days I’m back to it not working again, at all.

It does say in the documentation that the phone does need to charge all the way to 100% occasionally. However, for me, it’s more the other way round. It charges to 80% for the first week or so, then it just stops working altogether.

I think it’s really pathetic that a company as rich as apple cannot be bothered addressing user concerns such as this. Just absolute arrogance

I've updated to 17.1 and it's still not working properly. I understand that it is supposed to occasionally charge to 100%, but my phone charges to 100% every time... the bug is definitely still there.

When I updated to 17.1 this is got “fixed” for my phone

Very odd there are no responses. Wonder if this is fixed in 17.1. I will iOS 17 has a lot of bugs

Has this been resolved? My battery limit was working then 1 night I forgot to put it on charge and it hasn’t worked since for 3 weeks despite charging at same time
