Brand new MacBook Pro turning back on

I got something on the keypad buttons and turned off the new MacBook Pro completely to clean them. I had to press firmly to wipe off the keys. Each time I did this the computer turned back on. And then I turned it off, then I continued to wipe the keys and again the computer turned back on. I had to turn off the computer each time I wiped a key at least 10 times to get it clean. This is aggravating. I’ve been a devoted Mac person for atleast 15 years. I personally have 4800 shares of Apple stock. It may be time to buy a PC. Needless to say the new MacBook Pro was returned to the store. Also when you open the lid, the computer turns back on, so you go through the airport and you think your computer is turned off, but NO it’s still draining down your computer. Unbelievable. I don’t understand the logic. At this point I don’t know which MacBook Pro it was.

Unfortunately this is a feature Apple feels is very important for us to have....it comes from Thinking Different.

I agree it is a terrible feature for this reason and because it is so easy to accidentally trigger a power on....same goes when connecting a charger (sometimes even disconnecting a charger), but there is unfortunately no way to disable this behavior.

You can provide Apple with product feedback here and hope enough people provide the same feedback so that Apple may be compelled to change it:

Hey there,
You can disable auto-boot on opening the lid.

I don't think that works for an Apple Silicon Mac, in fact I have not seen any Apple article where Apple suggested this for an Apple Silicon Mac....I have seen an Apple article where this was mentioned for an Intel Mac.

In fact, there have been numerous reports on this forum where using that command on an Apple Silicon Mac (or other "nvram" commands), have caused an Apple Silicon Mac to malfunction where the only option was to perform a firmware "Restore" to fix the Mac, but this also destroyed all data on the internal SSD.

I would advise people to avoid using the "nvram" command on an Apple Silicon Mac unless they are 100% certain the command won't make the Mac malfunction. And I would highly recommend to make sure to have a good backup before attempting such a command on an Apple Silicon Mac just to be safe...especially if you value your data.
