delete mutiple contacts

I need to delete one hundred plus contacts (from my former job) on my iPhone 8+ My phone says it is updated to iOS 16 but when I follow the directions given on forums it doesn’t work. Specifically I cannot highlight more than one contact with the double finger touch and drag. Is there something I’m missing?

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 16

Hi Stanfokm40,

Contacts can only be deleted one at a time from your device. Learn more here: Manage and delete contacts on your iPhone or iPad

If you use iCloud for your contacts, you can delete multiple contacts on the iCloud site. Here's how: Delete contacts on iCloud.com

1. In Contacts on iCloud.com, click the All Contacts list in the sidebar.
2. If you don’t see the sidebar, click the Sidebar button.
3. Select one or more contacts you want to delete, then click the Actions button at the top of the list.
4. Click Delete Contact, then click Delete.

Regards.
